In effect, it's just a raffle with VERY expensive tickets & little chance of winning.

Take the Cortex HDC 1000. They are selling 50 tickets at £10 each. Therefore, if you buy a ticket you have a 2% chance of winning it.

However, the company will take a total of £500, and then give away a Cortex for which they probably paid about half or two thirds that amount.

They must be laughing all the way to the bank!

If you read "How It Works", the person running it keeps none of the profit. It is all donated to charity (which the winner of the prize can nominate).

The site is run by a DJ and he set it up for the benefit of other DJ's.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the info...I didnt take the time to read the whole site, so I was unaware the profits were donated to charity.

I'd still rather go out myself, pay full price for the item which I was then guaranteed to get, and make a seperate donation to a charity.

Like I said, £10 is a lot to pay for a raffle ticket for something I only have a 2% chance of winning.

I'm not saying its a bad idea, just not for me.

If others want to go for it, good luck to them!

The concept was the result of a poll on another DJ forum. I have read the threads about it and signed up but even knowing a bit of the background, I found it difficult to figure out how it worked from the site :confused:

I agree £10 is a lot to put in. But then some people spend that much on the lottery each week, and I bet the odds of winning a £300+ prize on that are far longer than 1 in 50!

Nothing to worry about here, the chap running this has high morals and it is all above board. Looks like a bit of fun to me....

As Brian states it's all above board nothing is being done for profit.

If however you feel the odds are to high then don't join.

The cost is perfectly inline with the odds of winning, he could do the tickets at a pound but the odds would be 500/1 rather than 50/1.
