I have been thinking that maybe buying a laptop and loading all our CD's on to it would be the easiest way of listing our music.

The only other way of getting a list together would be to type every track into Excel and print it off and take it with us. This will take a lifetime to do but how on earth do we find which disc to look on for a requested song?

Also with a laptop we could play the song directly from it via the decks! (I think:confused: )

Suggestions please as I don't relish the idea of inputing tracks off of the dozens of CD's we have already bought :(

There are software applications that can put together music lists for you. Pop the cd in your drive and the software will connect to an online database to fill in the information.

Or for something very cheap, feature rich and intuitive to use, look at OTS Turntables. Can be upgraded later to the full DJ product but I find this is usually all I need.

So long as your spreadsheet has at least 'song', 'artist', 'album' it won't be a problem... assuming the CDs are in a sensible order.

Thanks for your advice and links.

I have had a look at a few laptops but need to know from any digital guys what size hard drive I need. There is a 100GB ultra mobile laptop in PC world for £599, quite like the look of that and its much smaller than the laptop I use at the moment for work!

Already have an external HD for backups but may get another one just for music.

I would more likely to be looking at the speed of the processor and the RAM etc, than the size of the HDD.
