My mum has decided to get me a USB turntable for my birthday & (if you believe the blurb) the ITT USB & TT USB are identical except for what the platter is made of.

Are Ion & Numark connected / the same company?

Is it the same turntable?

Is it worth £10 more for a metal platter as opposed to a plastic one?

I have a Numark TT-1650 with metal platter and direct drive. It was a recomendation by the company JP Leisure who told me that the metal plates are more sturdy (for scratching and slipmats) and less prone to vibrations picked up by the pickup (that nasty hum you can hear caused by a drivebelt amplified through a plastic table). I guess its down to what you want from the deck. Generally metal is better than plastic. Im not sure on the link between ION and NUMARK though.

Steve this is why I bought your spare deck --to transfer vinyl to Mini Disc and CD/ MP3.

Whats the attraction of this new equipment?

Anyone know anything about a record deck machine a friend has told me about that has a laser that reads vinyl without a stylus?

Whats the attraction of this new equipment?Easier than using a traditional turntable (USB straight to the computer to store tracks as MP3s)

Yes, they cost an arm & a leg plus some toes & a couple of fingers. (supposed to be very good though)

Generally metal is better than plastic.I would have thought so too, but I wasn't really asking about that. Is it worth paying a tenner more for what I want to do with it.

They seem to be the same turntable rebadged & in different colours, with a different platter, but according to the blurb, this is the only difference between them.

Just to add this is mainly to rip my collection of obscure 80s indie & alternative records & not (in the main) to DJ with (not too sure why I pointed this out)

Yes, yes and yes, Ion is not a well known brand for making turntables, unlike Numark, and yes, they are now part of the Numark brand, so no doubt they will get better.

If you can afford more, take a look at the Stanton T90 USB, its direct drive so will not wave in pitch like belt drive decks, and also has Key Lock and Reverse Play

Not had a chance to yet, it's been sitting in a corner of the office since mid June. I'll keep you posted when I've tried it out.
