Dodgy CA-8 Controller?

Hi all,

As you know I got my Acme Dynamos the other week and with them came the CA-8 Controller. I've used it about 4 times so far and it's been cool but last night I tried it, plugged it in and it didn't do anything. The little lights didn't go on and even though I pushed the buttons (thought they still might work), nothing happened so I just let the scanners go sound to light.

It wasn't bad actually as it runs through the whole sequence when it's sound to light and I was surprised but I'd still like to be able to use the CA-8 every now and then. I haven't dropped it or damaged it and I even took it apart today and checked that everything was connected inside...it was. When I put it back togeather and connected it up, the lights came on on the controller and everything was fine so I took it out again and put it back and they didn't come on this time.

Haven't got a clue what the problem is and wondered if this was a common case?

Have you checked you are plugging it into the master unit and not one of the others?
Also only plug it in when unit is off then turn on unit.

You could always try replacing the Jack on the end of it, it may have broken off, which would explain your intermiten connection.

Spin...I have plugged it in to the master unit with all of the others connected to eachother BUT...I think you have sussed it for me (I hope so anyway)... Y'see I plugged the controller in when the units were all on, or at least I think I did? That would explain it and the more I think of it, the more it seems to be the right explanation. I'll try it tomorrow.

Why would this be the case though if it is the reason? Is it because when they are on they are already going through their cycle or something?

Funny I thought I plugged the CA8 in my DynaTwins when they were on--ill have to check:eek:

Just re-solder every joint you can find. Might work ..... :D

I'm pretty sure I have one of these controllers kicking about somewhere that I don't use. Its made by Source, but i'm pretty sure its the same thing and would work with the dynamos. Let me know if you're interested and you can have it for a fiver + postage.

Unfortunatle the source controllers dont work on the dynamos as they were for 2 channels. I had a go with the one I had left from my source celebrations, it only changed the gobos and the rest of the unit doesnt respond.

They do look identical though.

Well I just tested mine for Saturday and it didnt make any difference plugging the CA8 in after the dynas were switched on.

As Spin said make sure you plug CA8 into Master and have the connection between Master and Slave round the right way.
