Cooling Pads For Laptops

Hi all, just gone down the digital route with a laptop. Very pleased with it so far and should of done it sooner.

I have seen on this forum and others places that heat will kill a laptop sooner or later. I have come across cooling pads for laptops which the laptops sits on. Does anyone else use these and are they any good?

Yes I think they are good certainly it's better not to let your lappy get too hot it could cut out.
It is worth bearing in mind that these cooling pads take up a USB socket.

Laptops do get hot and manufactures know this there laptops have cooling fans and ventilation. As lone as you position your laptop on a suitable surface and dont block the ventilation or fans you will be OK.

You could also use a laptop stand available from various outlets that allows you to adjust the height of your laptop and increases ventilation without the need for usb powered cooling pads.

I prop my laptop up on poker chips, or if I forget them i just use a few 2p's :)

Same here and it doesn't take an extra USB socket either as it has a plug through one.

I have a coolermaster laptop cooler which I have never used.

I would recomend using a temperature sensor monitoring program though, that way you can monitor if you have a need for one or not.

It certainly won't do any harm if you have one it just may not be required.

There are dozens of programs availabe but the one I use is called speed fan as recomended by the guys at computer DJ and can be downloaded from below.

Its simply and effective and can be minimised to the taskbar so you can see whatever temp it is set to display.

If however you want to use another one just do a google search for PC temperature monitor.

I use one with 3 fans that plugs into a USB port and has a loop-through USB, it was about £14 from CPC. Works fine for me, not had a heat issue so far.

Guess you mean a heat issue???
Nope, although I bought the cooler around the time I started seriously using the laptop for DJing.
When I first started playing with PC DJing I did notice the laptop got quite hot so that's why I bought a cooler.
