Debate of the week, Did video kill the radio star???

The Buggles seems to have been spot on with their song - Video killed the Radio star

Is this right or wrong are people hearing the music from the likes of MTV first or many other types of music video channels

will digital kill them off for good? as BBC Radio 1 FM is now in digital as well
internet radio is gaining more popularity as such they will be internet stars before they are radio stars??

It is my personal opinion that most local commercial radio should be killed anyway, it seems to churn out a mush of lowest common denominator based music that will appeal to the widest audience thereby keeping thier advertising clients happy, the same goes for most of the sky tv music channels.
I love bbc radio1 for it's dedication to new music, I feel this aspect of radio1 alone will save it from extinction!
It wasn't video that killed John Peel, still miss his presence on air so much.

I my opionion i think radio is still far reaching i mean at the end of the day you jump in the car and spend however long stuck in traffic jams, or perhaps you drive dueing your day job, none the less there are so many cars on the road and loads of people listen to the radio, 760'000 listeners for real radio in scotland who target the 25+ age groupnow for a population of 5 million - to which i think there are (my guesses only) 2 million elderly coffin dodgers (who listen to saga FM and BBC Radio4), 2 million kids then thats quite impressive

but we get spanked bottys ................... I know quite a few businesses whose chosen advertising medium is radio so i dont think its dead in that respect and they are successful with that , with regards to radio stars I dont think there are that many .... Chris Moyles ...... erm....... I know more than that obviously but does mr. smith in the street.

I've just looked at the replies and laughed so much i fell off my stool....Hummm back on topic...radio stars - Chris Moyles, yes but what about the legend that is Mr Terry Wogan or a few late greats - Fluff Freeman, Kenny Everett.....I think radio is still alive be it digital or FM.

I can't sit down to MTV but always have the Radio on........:D

Me to but I end up changing channels quite often because or the rabbit the radio jocks give...I know it's there job (no offence to Ross) and thats what they are paid to do. But when I gig, I try and keep the chat to a very minimum...I find that really strange as I think we all do the same job but think people would like to hear more music than chat when I gig...:confused:

I'd agree, at a disco, people don't want to hear the DJ waffling on, because generally they want to dance - and if not the music is in the background and not interrupting their conversation.

A radio DJ is different however, and I know the station that I listen to (Real Radio) has some great personalities who are interesting enough to listen to! :D

video did not kill the radio star music television i think is crap same songs repeted over and over as for radio best i have heard is smooth but from 10 pm metro radio the night owls is the best ( have a listen you will soon be addicted )
mainly a phone in talk show but he does a part of the show called ruff cuts and plays snippets of songs and artists that he thinks are gonna be big he had sandi thom on his show months before she became famous or had a record contract

They won't, but as I'm increasingly discovering (as I'm a bit quiet on the mic), it's the rapport that your patter generates with the audience that allows you to make it a great night by making them feel more at ease about making requests and so on.
