Magnetic sign

Put some pics up yesterday of the magnetic van signs.

Design is great - no worries there Shaun.

However, I'm not particularly happy with the finished signs. Bought form a company recomended by a fellow forum member, all artwork and discussion done via email and phone. Had a little difficulty getting them delivered (even though I made it clear that I was happy to pay for delivery) as the company assumed I was local! Things got even more frustrating when they didn't arrive as promised last Wednesday and the lady who answered the phone was more than a little rude to me (and all I asked was when were they sent and which service they had used).

So they arrived Friday and initially indications were good. However, I have now discovered that the two signs, although identical are different sizes - one is about 20mm longer - and as such is just slightly too big for the panel on the van. Looking closer at the print, there are lines running through it all - a bit like you get when an ink cartridge is running out. The black is not solid block black. Now I sort of expected it to be better than that. Add to that the fact the the white background is actually not pure white - little tiny light greyish dots (Shaun I am assuming the pdf you sent had a pure white background?).

Now I've never bought a big vehicle magnetic sign before, but are my problems common? Should I complain (I am planning to, but the lady was SO arsey with me)? I guess I could cut the oversized one to size myself, but I don't know if this will damage the sign? And after all, I paid for these, so why shoudl I!

I guess I could cut the oversized one to size myself, but I don't know if this will damage the sign? And after all, I paid for these, so why shoudl I!

Sounds like they've botched the job. The PDF background was white, Ricey. If it were me I'd be right on the phone with a list of the complaints. Let us know how you get on!.

Absolutely...sounds like they have fallen WAY short of the mark.

The print quality on a magnetic vehicle sign should be no different to what you'd expect on anything esle. Sounds like they've messed up to me.

If you cant get no (satisfaction) and I tried and I tried and I tried :D

Guy down the road here produced a brilliant replica sign for my boat--they are currently doing a lot of work on my garden, house etc and are real professionals-use to sign write Barges, Boats and those fancy castles and things you see painted on traditional Narrow Boats.

Also do signwriting, magnetics etc.

OK, just to add to all of this (although I think I have a solution), I have replied by email to the company - I will keep the name out of this for now as the company were recomended to me (and once again, to the person who recomended them, this is in no way your fault!)


The two banners arrived on Friday thank you.

Unfortunately I am not very happy with the quality of work on them at all. To start with, the two banners, although identical, are actually different sizes. The larger one is actually too big for the panel on the van it needs to go on.

Secondly, the quality of print is appalling. There are white lines running across the print throughout both banners - the same sort of effect you get when an inkjet cartridge is running out. On top of that the background has a slightly mottled effect as if a coloured background was printed. The PDF I sent you actually had a plain white background.

Finally, one of the two banners has large "bubbles" throughout which are quite noticeable. Oddly the other one doesn't?

I have to say that I am not happy to have paid for this poor quality of work.

I'm hoping you will be able to reply the minute you get this email to let me know how you can put this right for me?

All's well so far, but I would rather not have the hassle of sourcing a new company, so I replied:


Uless this is the best quailty you can manage, I do actually want these type of banners. I would be just as happy for you to send me a replacement (assuming you can get the quality right?).

If you're not happy to do that, could you confirm that you will refund all the postage costs too?

I have sold Hundreds of these magnetic sign & no one has ever had any conplaints & most people understand that for a low cost but long
life advert for car or van viewed typicaly from say 1 or 2 mts the quality is fine, infact I have customers like Taxi etc who have had over the years many dozens.

As far as size is concerned they can be trimed with a stanly knife.

I am quite happy to send you another set & or refund your P&P

I have replied and suggested that maybe I had better send them back and have a refund. Seems that they are quite happy to accept poor shoddy work, so nothing will change on a replacement. However I am a little nervous about sending them back BEFORE getting my money back and also want to be clear that I should expect to get the cost of the delivery to me AND the return to them refunded as well?

Crazy has a company he's going to ask to do them, but anyone else know of a mail order place that will do the job as I expected?

I can tell you exactly how your signs were made!!! They have used the cheapest method ever! They have printed on to sticky back vinyl and then stuck it on to a magnetic panel! That's why there is bubbles also i find that they mat have not laminated it before they suck the vinyl on to it, a little bit of water and the colour my wash out!

Under the 'distance selling regulations' the supplier is liable for all delivery costs. Send them an email stating you expect to be reimbursed for all out of pocket expenses.
