Recommendation on a mixer please.

Dear All,

I'm looking to get a new mixer, as the one I have doesn't really cut it, basically I have about a limit of £130 to spend, not really and special requirements, although a 19" would be good :) I have looked at a Behringer VMX1000 Mixer but haven't heard much about the brand, from what I understand they're quite good.

A heads up would be great.

Well i have a Citroinic 10:4MK. Is a brilliant mixer! It has the mic fade ect its 4 channel mixer with 2 mic inputs

I believe the Behringer VMX1000 is a good little mixer. We run a Citronic too - the SM500 which has been a good workhorse.

thanks for the recommendations, although both are a little too much, else if the Behringer VMX1000 Mixer seems a good little mixer, I think thats where my money is going to be spent. Any recommendations on shops either in norwich or on the tinternet to purchase?

I used to use the Citronic 8:4 (http://www.terralec.co.uk/dj_mixers/4_channel_10_input_citronic_mixer/15919_p.html), many moons ago. It falls within your price range and is a great little mixer.

Wouldnt reccomend behringer the ammount of there stuff which breaks down isnt very reasurring

I've just replaced my old mixer with a Numark CM100, which I got for £125.

I haven't used it yet, but I've been told they are good quality mixers.

I used to have a VMX1000 but the curve on the faders is horrid.. nothing until the last 5mm, then all of a sudden its mega loud. Also, it has a rotary control for the master, rather than a lateral fader.

In the interests of accuracy, I think this is a case of RTFM. We have a VMX1000. There is a control that alters the crossfader curve between logarithmic (all control at the extremities of the fader) or linear (equal fade across the whole width). You must have had yours set to log.

The 1500 is a great mixer, but if you do not have the need for effects/sampler etc, save some money and go for the DNX 500. Same mixer without the bells and whistle.

used to use citronic and may go back there as i use a numark 200fx at the moment and never thought it as good as my citronic. if i had a day job and could justify the outlay then id have a look at a denon but 500 is a large chunk of what i get each month and the bills need paying lol.

i like the look of the citronic msx-4 but have not heard anyone that uses one or have never seen one which doesn't bode well .

I'd avoid any of the Behringer mixers. I got a DJX-700 which looked great from it's spec but the build quality felt really cheap. no good for mobile work, go for somthing solid and chunky like the citronic or numark suggestions.

when i first started citronic was suggested to me , not many bells and whistles but reliable , i have found this to be true my msx1 is 10 years old ish without a scratch on it in perfect working order and as said personally i think the sound from it is better than from my numark but its only 2 channel.

Ive got two Behringer mixers, the old DX1000 which is getting on a bit now but after nearly 10 years its served me well and never ever let me down.

On my other setup, I stuck with the behringer VMX1000. Had that 18 months and have to say, for the price *around £120 I think, does the job.

Solid, easy to use and if it lasts as long as my other one then you cant go wrong. 3 year warranty with thomann as well.

Not top of the range nowadays, but what I would get as a replacement for the second set. I would have got one for the main, but it has one less mic channel than the one I got.

Absolutely true! I said it wasn't top of the range now. Apparently don't get the silver ( I think) coloured ones, they had a terrible name. The dark ones are apparently OK

Usually to give you the option of line input( CD/ Minidisc) or Phono (Decks).
Different voltage levels you see.

I've always been under the impression that the old phono signals were alternating voltage signals, and the line signals were alternating current? I could of course, be completely mistaken (it's happened once before, 1993 I believe ;) )

The line input will be line-level, which means its been amplified (pre-amp). Phono is typically for an unamplified signal and will therefor be amplified once it comes into the mixer. so voltages are different

Wish I could say the same for the behringer DX1000. Unfortunately i cant I had problem after problem with this mixer. Spent more time in repair.

As for citronic mixers. They arent bad mixers. Ive previously had a 10.4 dsp but wanted smaller so changed it for a denon dn x500

Numark or Citronic i would choose personally. If you can get a denon one cheap on ebay. I would recommend the Denon.

The way i see things. Is when it comes to equipment you buy what can afford. The Denon gear was out of reach for me for a while. (budgetwise)

But i worked for it. Personally i do like my Denon kit and i prefer it. But i wouldnt look down on those that dont use denon.

A lot of the other makes are good. Including numark, citronic, gemini etc etc. So long as they do the job thats what it comes down to.

dont think you can get these anymore more but i got a cloud dm 1200 and its excellent,better than kam and so on better quietly, also when you put up your master the mic volume dosent change beacuse you have a differnt volume knob and its got six channels and 19" 4u its done me proud very good mixer +++++

Behringer VMX1000 in a second hand shop near me 95 quid with power lead and side pannels to make it 19" mint condison and also they was selling my cloud for 145quid sothen that means they say mines better lol buy the bejringer is not a bad little mixer
