looking for a twin unit that plays mp3, apart from denon can anyone tell a good story of others on the market. Just need it as a backup so hopefully will never be used.

I was looking for something similar recently, but in the end I had to bite the bullet and get a Denon DN-D4500. It is the only unit I could put 100% faith into, although for a while I was looking at the Numark MP302, as I do like Numark.

I honestly can't think of any other alternatives which would be reliable enough for live use :confused:

well i already have denon 5000 decks , but i,m fed up carting them around for the very rare instance that i use them.I,m thinking ditch them and put my mixer dac 3 and cd unit in one case.
wish id never sold my dnd 6000 now.

Aah, I was exactly the same, had a big coffin case with 2 DN-S5000s and a DN-X1500 in it. It was a nightmare to lug about.

I take it you only need backup in case you need to play a CD from the client, or if your PC system goes down?

Have you considered just taking one S5000 out with you? When I was planning to go PC DJ, I had planned to take one S5000 and a portable MP3 player as backup. Should the worst happen, and the PC system failed, I would use the S5000 with Alpha track, and the MP3 player as the backup playout. It wouldn't be easy, but it would have gotten me out of a deep hole! :D

yeah have though of that, but if both my pcs crashed id feel happier with two decks. i normally only set one deck up mind and it was needed last week when i had to switch pcs when my new one developed this buzzing noise.
i have my mixer and decks in seperate road ready cases.
i,m now thinking twin decks and ditch the 5000s and dnx 1500 for a denon 900 mixer as i never use the sampler or effects on the 1500.
i dont normally like buying cheap gear but in the case of cd unit this time, i,m not really ever going to use it, as even if client has a cd, i just rip it on site.
ahhh alpha track, forgot all about that.... ummmm
although thats only really good for standard cds as with mp3 it takes a while to load the tracks.

Agree totaly, nice big screen, and I'm NOT as blind as a bat! :D

If it's only for back-up get a budget one, thousands of DJ's use them week in & week out!! My back-up CD player is the bog standard Numark CDN 25 MK4 (not an MP3 player), Never had to use it in over 60 gigs - but I know its good to go if my 2 PC's fail.

KAM & Numark do MP3 dual for about £220, I've used both with MP3's in a club situation (not very good clubs mind) - never had a problem, standard interface, rubber buttons all worked ok, can't comment on long term reliability though, but then if it's only for back-up? :)

I've been using a Numark MP302 for about 6 months, and they are great units.

They have MP3 playback capability, text display of track names and anti-shock.

I've had no problems at all, although they sometimes take a little longer than expected to read the TOC...but it should be more than sufficient as a back up unit.

If you look around, you can find them for about £250 - £300.

Shame... just sold a mint MP302 a couple of weeks back. Tried it on DJBids but no joy so went on fleabay instead. I'd been carrying it around as a spare but ultimately decided that 2 laptops dedicated to music, a third used for DMX which could be commandeered, a d2 director, a cheapo mp3 player loaded up with a few "get-me-out-of-this-hole" mixes and a portable CD player were probably sufficient options in case of equipment failure :eek:

I personally wouldn't recommend those.

I used a couple recently, and found that about once in every 1-2 discos, it would corrupt. This meant having to turn it off, turn it back on & re-cue the disc.

Not an ideal situation!

Oh right, strange. Never had a problem with mine at all, been using it in a local pub every week for the last 5 months too (as only a tiny set up needed), and not had a problem at all.

Also I know from the volume we sell, there are very few which actually make their way back to us. But as with everything, there are always a few bad apples out there (the CD players that is, not you Rob LoL)

Maybe I was just unlucky...although I had the same problem with 2 different units.

I guess it was just a duff batch or something.

oh i bought the denon 4500 in the end, will never use it but i,m mad !!!!!!!!!!!
