I've been thinking about replacing the amps on the mid highs on my large system but don't want to spend thousand's on them?

has anyone tried running the behringer europower EP1500 bridged mono into a 4ohm load?

my mid/highs are rated at 1200watts each (into 4ohms) so the only way I could use these amps is one amp to each cab (I have 4 cabs) this way I could keep the cost down until I can buy something better then the behringers can be used on my monitor system.

any help would be good! Thanks.

I personally wouldn't risk running a cheap amp at 4ohm bridged, as its the equivelant and running down to 2ohm per channel.

Plus, if you're using them on mid/tops then you'll loose the stereo sound and effects you get on certain tracks.

You can get crown amps for not a lot more than the Behringer range, so got to be worth paying that little bit extra -

I think your missing the point! on the behringer site they say the amps will run into 4ohm bridged but has anyone tried it?

And I need at least 1200watts into the speaker i.e 1 x 1200watt amp on each channel per speaker!

what I really want is 2 x crown MVZ5000 ( 1 for bass & 1 for mid/hi) but have a child getting married in two months so cash tight at the moment

Ahh.. i see what you mean. But still, its like taking an L Reg 1 litre Fiat Panda and driving it everywhere at 70mph in 3rd gear...it'll do it, but its probably not a good idea!

Whats wrong with using the EP2500 ? it's the best for the money.

as they say needs must! and they won't be run flat out because the system is limited at 0db and JBL loaded! they only have to last till xmas then I can get the crowns yum!

trouble is the C-audios I'm using at the moment are well past the sell buy date in fact 1 let go last week so I'm already 1 down and on borrowed time!

Theres nothing wrong with them.. i have one.. but i wouldn't risk running it at 2ohms.

And like i said, for not much more money you can have something a lot better.. so seems little point in buying them when there's better on the market these days.

Hi paul! I did think about the 2500 but it's not enough power stereo and to much bridged!

So if you use EP2500 bridge mono and don't drive it too hard ?

colint

that would be ok if it were just me using the system but I also use it for hire for other Dj's who need bigger kit!

plus it's a 12k system how would you know when to stop pushing the master?

Sapphire Disco

Oh see, but if you use something only just powerful enough you could have clipping which is just as bad if you are not there , maybe if you could use bigger amps and put some sort of device on to stop them going beyond three quarters max ?

colint
12-06-2007, 09:42 PM
I've already got a formula sound gardian on the rack which is set to stop the amps clipping plus even with rental I still have overall controll on the system but even I have to go to the Loo! and those few mins.. are all it takes!

maybe I'll just leave it with the amps I have till xmas I must admit my amps have lasted well & the only reason the C-audio went is because I lent it to someone! nice eh? and he didn't even tell me!

but it does show you if you pay well they last well, the austin armstrong amps that run my bass are 15 years old now and never let me down they just keep working

Colin, I urge you to buy an EP1500.
I have 2x 2500 & 1x 1500 among other amps.

The 1500 has been used week in week out for 2years to run my Precision Devices PD1850's, it is run bridged @ 4ohms and has never missed a beat.

I too had doubts but can't believe what good amps they are.
I run mine to the limit & without the clip limiters on - just monitor them myself.

I feel that because of the budget price they get rubbished.

Get one, if you don't like it I will buy it from you at what you paid for it, that's a genuine offer!!!

oh and they have clip limiters!

Now theres an offer! Thats the sort of thing I was looking for! just needed to hear from someone doing the same, by the way tony I need 4 amps not one
(1 for each speaker) so I wont hold you to that but thanks anyway

What about the T.Amp TA2400 (http://www.thomann.de/gb/t-amp_ta2400.htm), 1200 watts into 4ohms stereo. You would only need two of these.

Looks like a good buy , seems a bit of strange power rating though -650 watts p/c @ 8 ohm - 1200 p/c @ 4ohm ??? just seems a big jump.

thats just what i was thinking? plus the behringer are cheeper and as I'd use more of them think they would be more suitable to what I need

also I know the behringer name and have used some of there kit on installs before

Great price, but it does seem a big jump, the 8ohm is normally about 2/3 of the 4 ohm. I'd be interested to see what frequency these tests were carried out at??

If it really is 2 x 1200 @ 4 ohms and with a sensible test frequency then Thomann have done it again!

i have the cmark mr 2650 exact same internals and case (same amp basically and they are an absolute workhouse mine are run at 4 ohms and trust me they are good.

the behringer amps get very hot when bridged into a low impedence as it is a copy of the rmx 2450 by qsc with few corners cut e.g. the power supply is sameller this starving the amp of juice when it really needs it!

ideally you need something biggger s at those power levels your goin to struggle getting 1000 rms without clipping! '

the ep1500 will be near enough flat out at bridged mode this causing a lot of heat which isnt good!

speakerplans also say that it is not recommended as they have done this and it has resulted in the amp burning out.

I'd just like to say that Colin considered the EP1500 coz of the cost issue & doesn't intend to run them in this situation forever.

He also asked if anyone had run one bridged @ 4ohms, which I have extensively for 2years and close to the clip limit.

My one runs my subs (2 x 800w, 8ohm, PD 1850) from 30hz to 120hz which puts a big current drain on the supply & transistors and although it runs very warm it's not excessive.

Seeing as he wants them for his mid/tops and the drain will not be as high I don't really see that they will work any harder than mine does, maybe faster switching at higher frequencies may run hotter?

I think for the money you won't get a better budget amp!

maybe?, but i would rather just go for two tamps less money and less weight than four amps also meings buying a biggger rack?

Gillo, I just re-read your post regarding the Cmark(Just got a bit confused 1st time coz you didn't quote anything)

Are you saying that the "T.Amp TA2400" is the same amp as the "Cmark MR2650"? If you are saying that and your review of it is right then I owe you an apology..........sounds like an incredible amp for the money and I agree 'sheepishly' that they seem a better deal!

Sorry! :o :)

having 4 amps make's the rack more versatile and as I have a 20unit rack full of 2u amps space really is really not a problem and weight isn't really an issue when the speaker weigh about 150 kilos each and there's ten of them!

the reason I like the idea of I amp to a speaker is if an amp goes pear shaped I'll still have three others to get me by (I also have a spare rack with 3 800watt C-audio amps as standby old but working)

this is also the reason I'm not keen on active speaker systems because if you lose 1 componant you lose the lot! is really easy to put another amp/speaker on (in fact I've done it without many people noticing) but try finding another mackie 450 at 11 at night!

Each speaker has 2 amps in it, so therefore they have 4 amps in a pair.

You could quite easily survive on one cab and you'd have to be very unlucky if both went down in the same night.

If I travel more than 5 miles to a gig, then I take an EVSXA100 with me as a backup. I think they weigh about 15Kg, a lot less hassle than an amp rack with 3 amps in I would have thought!

Not when you have 800-1500 people it aint!!!

so what happens when the hi amp goes? and all you've got is mid/bass?

anyway getting away from the point I run a large scale P.A so the mackie's would be no good to me (apart from using them as monitors) and no I'm not putting the mackie's or other's down, just a case of horses for courses!

And from the replys if had to this post it seems the behringer's will be perfect for what I need for the time being! :p

But to be fair, you didn't mention that.

You still have another speaker (and the spare if you're me!)

Agreed - I wouldn't use actives if I was taking a big PA out either.

Just to put things right I still Dj myself on the odd occasion but my main thing now is to supply other Dj's (& bands) with P.a when there own kit can't cope with large venues

below is some of the kit in my P.a:

technics SL1210'
Numark C.D system
Numark 1835 mixer
behringer 24 channel mixer (spare)
Soundcraft LX7 24 channel mixer
24 channel stage box & 40meter multicore
formula sound limiter
custom built active crossover
a mix of C-audio, Austin armstrong, QSC amps,

4 x 1200 watt JBL loaded mid/hi speakers
4 x 1200 watt JBL loaded triple chambered bass speakers
2 x 1200 watt JBL loaded quad chambered extended bass speakers

Turbosound txd stage monitors
Shure & AKG mics
plus all the other stuff that goes with the above
Full lighting system on 4 meters of astralite!

so with all that lot you can see why an extra rack makes no diffirance!

system out sat night so I'll post some photos next week (If I can work out how to use the damm camera!)

I'm 51 you wanna see the state of me some nights humping that lot about!

I know the list looks impresive but not at three in the morning so believe me I have looked at the smaller gear but it just don't work for what i do!

thats why I'm looking at the crown amps because although the cost is just plain stupid I can do the whole system on just three amps (+ a smaller one for the foldback) then I can concentrate on the more important thing in life (like Jamisons & coke) and let the crew sort it all out!

would also like comments on wether this service would be of use to other members (no I'm not trying to sell my ware just comment please!

the idea is you get the gig & I come out & set the system up and you opperate it? any feedback would be helpfull!

yes Gillo low but movin them aint to easy, I've just got back from setting up half the system in a large church hall in erith kent for a wedding I've put in 1pair of mid/hi's 2-2x15"tc bins & 2-2 x 18"tc bins scared the hell out of the vicar with a soundcheck at about 6k!
so he's pure again now!
and your right they do blow you away! they still do to me every time I use them which is why there worth the trouble!

by the way the 2 x 18's go down as low as 23hz

the slogan for stealth audio systems (my soundsystem I keep the disco seperate!) Is

Passion, Grace & serious bass! (an old jbl slogan) but dicribes the system so well!
