Acme/Thomann Moving heads advice on using??

I hope to take delivery of 4 Thomann (Acme iMOVE) moving heads on friday. Never used them before, looking for some advice.

* I plan to use my PC DMX software to run them when I have time but for this weekend I need to set them up using the in-built programs. I have bought the easy controller (3 button one) any tips??

* I'm on a 3ft high stage Saturday, what position should I put them in, on the floor, on the bass horns, at the back, at the front?

I plan to have 4 Scanners & 2 Datamoons on my truss and the set-up will be similar to the attached photo but obviously on a stage and with bass horns, the pic below shows only the grills from my horns (used here to tidy up the tripods a bit) The Speakers & Bass horns will be situated roughly on the outside of the truss tri-pods as I will have much more room to spread things out.

Any suggestions very welcome!

Gonna be hard to set up anything on a 3ft stage :-)

If it was me, i'd have them on the floor of the stage.. gives a nice layering to the lighting.

agreed, just make sure nobody damages them as there is nothing worse then a new toy getting broken:(

Yeah floor was my first thought, maybe evenly spaced just in front of the black-out cloth? Not sure that at the back of the stage would help the look of the stuff on the truss?

Hi Tony the easy controler will get you by but you wont be happy with it very limited functions and a bit fiddly, you can link all 4 heads together but its better if you can control each head on its own. Theres allways a promblem for mobiles when you use dmx programes for heads because you never know the paremeters of the room and what fits one venue wont suit the next gig. I dont know the specs of the heads you have purchased but i suspect they have very limited options that is can you alter there movment so they dont mirror there movment ie left & right. I some times run up to 8 heads(Robe) and my lighting tech allways has manual control so he can move to a required zone in a flash ,but there again we use a dedicated proper lighting desk like a Fat Frog,if you need any help im only 6 miles up the road.

Thanks Tony, might take you up on that if I get stuck, this moving head thing's new to me!

All my other stuff is indivdualy controlled by laptop running freestyler software but don't have time to program it for the moving heads for this weekend so have no choice, not ideal I agree!

I have programed different chases for different types of venue, I'm at the Prince Regent on saturday (which I'm sure you must know) so I can move the lights about a bit and use my wide show settings, just hoping these Acme lights will have a slow show for warm-up. :)

I use my moving heads floor standing. It gives a nice contrast between the elevated lights and those on the floor. Never had any damage so far.
