Box shifters or service providers

Hi what is your dj shop provider like.Are they A) box shifters where you get good prices but when you get any problems they are not interested.
or are they B)Service providers by this i mean good products but not as cheap as the internet.They will take the time to show you different products give you a shot before you buy.If you have any problems they will gladly take it back and fix the problem for you.

Ive had experience with both types and i must admit i would rather pay a small bit more to get a good after sales service than no after sales service at all

The closest to me, in Edinburgh, I avoid because they always seem to push for the sale - and I don't agree with their 'advice'.

Further afield, Images in Livingston are excellent. Great service, friendly staff who are up for a laugh, and the prices are pretty good too :)

We have a local shop who are b. I used to go to them for loads, for the reasons you state. Great when I was first getting going.
I only really buy stuff from Thomann now, but then I'm not a full timer and buy more for pleasure:D than need.
I did buy a Numark mixer as a backup, but it's pants (can we have a pant smiley please?) and is ONLY for backup.
I've bought several lights recently, just for the hell of it:D :D :D

For me, DSC in Dunstable is definately B.

Not as cheap as the internet (although they do sometimes match) but superb customer service (I've been using them about 10 years) and will always support you if you have any problems. Simply the best !! :D :5star: :claphands:

Maybe we should have thread of recommended suppliers (both local & nationally) who we, individually, have had good customer service from ?

The owner is not much of a "people" person, and has been rude to a couple of my friends.

The prices aren't that good either...although I accept that shops have high overheads.

In the past, I spent a good few grand there, but not any more.

These days I buy most stuff online, simply because it's loads cheaper.

I know you don't get the after sales service, but that's not really a problem, as my brother's an electronics engineer, so he does all my servicing & repairs free of charge.

Unfortunately, he's not qualified to do PAT testing, so someone I know at one of my quiz nights does that for me...also free of charge.

Good idea Ian, based in Northants I use Fabtronic Northampton who are DJ dealers but also do installations work, PAT and hire out in a big way.

I find that handy because they have a lot of useful up to date information on products, safety, suitability of generators :eek: etc.

Their prices are a bit more than average Internet but so are mine.

I value advice, back up etc and I have tried things like the JTS radio Mike before buying --good choice :D

Im going today to get them to PAT test a long lead and give me some advice on long power cables--to avoid generators in Marquees :eek: :eek: :eek:

I mainly use the internet and have saved literally thousands in the last year or two.

I went to a local(ish) shop though a few weeks ago and I tell you what I've missed the most about disco shops - the banter!

I too think that would be a good idea. I have used a shop in Herne Bay called Shout a few times. They seem pretty good and parking is easy in good old Herne Bay.

Beerfunk im with you Immages are great very helpful and they will also pricematch any deal.Pegasus are ok but very expensive and are not very keen to price match.its a shop in Glasgow that i am refering to that are box sellers,they sell knifes riffles and alsorts of electrical equipment.I have since found out that a lot of there dj stuff is cheaper because it is graded or b stock.If you have a problem there after sales is non existant.

i use the internet for pretty much everything now- saves time and cash.
would use a shop for leads and lamps but even these can be a lot cheaper on line.

Two shops where I am and both do the hard sell...only use them for the bit's and bobs for the time being.
No money to spend yet...

The point that im trying to make is that you can buy something cheaper of the internet but what kind of aftersales service do you get.If something goes wrong you will have to pay the cost YOURSELF to send it back and it may take days to get it back.

very true, but the savings can cover that in one go.

haven't bought anything significant in a shop for several years now- 5-10 years?
even back before the internet I used to buy most stuff mail order- the difference in costs is too big to ignore.

even where you get a shop to price match it isn't as good as you can often get the cheapest site to lower their price a little more with a little bartering.

I decided to buy my Cortex USB reader from a UK Disco shop because it was a new unproven product--still is--on the basis that if it goes wrong I just drop it into the shop ask for another one and let them sort it out.

I like an easy life.

There were direct offers from USA for considerably less cost--especially as the Dollar is so weak--I didnt fancy dealing with USA in the event of trouble.
