If you work in the business for a living, where do you see yourself in 5 or even 10 years time?

What do you see as the next stage? Running as a multi-op or agency? Working within the entertainment industry on a different level? Radio DJ? Lighting designer?

In 5 years, I aim to still be doing what I'm doing now.

In 10 years, I expect to be retired from DJ work, but still running quiz nights. I might also consider running as an agency, but leaving the DJ work to others.

If that doesn't work out, I'll just become a full time sex symbol.

I believe it's really important for businesses to know where they are going, particularly DJ / entertainers.

Honestly, if I am still doing the type of work at the volume I am this year in 3 years time I'll be extremely upset! I guess we all have huge dreams and I'm no different, but there are realistic plans!

So lets say 3 - 5 year plan:

1. Professional wedding DJ and recognised widely throughout my area as such
2. Tie ins with other local DJ's or possible my own kit to generate a mobile "club" service - look out for Funky Revelation!
3. At least two shows
4. Well respected party light / architectural lighting company within east anglia

Then there are the more tangable things:

1. I want to replace the Vito with a new Vivaro within 2 years

But who knows, you got to want it to get it I guess!

Reasonably.

I recently cleared the last of my debts, and being single with my own place, no mortgage & no baggage, my expenses are low.

However, who knows where I'll be in 5 or 10 years time...I might be married with 3 kids, in which case the plans might need a bit of a re-think!

why not try internet radio got a friend of mine does it, called kooba radio does all sorts of mad unsigned bands!

Things never really work out the way we think or hope they will , my regret is I wish I had started at 20 instead of 44 then maybe I would have had a few years where I could have been full time , as it is now I do the odd few gigs when I can fit them in.
Can't help thinking if I did one every week or two it would be easier.

I'll have been DJing for 33 years,having started in a community centre in Ayrshire with my FAL gear and my wee box of 7' singles.
Over those years I've partied with the rich (and not so rich) and famous in every country possible.
So here i am in 2007 back with my mobile having completed a full circle clubbing, promotion, and radio in between.
In 5 /10 years time??? probably still humfing bass bins up 4 flights of stairs still with the addage that your only as good as your last gig and mines was playing to 400 screaming kids at a community centre on Thursday.Ho-Hum Happy daze!!!!!!!:D :D :D

i don't do this full time so not sure if i can join in- the only thing i would like to change over the next fwe years is by getting slightly bigger events- bigger weddings and maybe a little more corporate stuff.

we've grown slowly but steadily over the last couple of years and i like the ability to offer something a little extra- multi room sound, visuals, projections, bigger rigs, giant mirror balls etc.

other than that, i think i am happy.
i'm a long way off giving up the day job, and i don't think i'd want to at the moment.

maybe a few more of the club nights we do, but i could sort that out straight away if i wanted.

maybe i'm being smug, but i'm kinda happy with my lot at the moment....

well o expect come 5 years i would like to think of lewnics entertainments being one of the top 5 disco companies, in 10 years i would like to have a chain of businesses under a parent group called "The Lewnics Group" I have made a start by setting up another business at the moment - dont wish to disclose too many details but hope to be operational within the next month and expect turnover to be in region of £5k a week.

Multi room sound - I like the sound of that. Can we ask for more details?

nothing special- just the ability to either offer the same music as the dancefloor in different rooms at a lower vol, or different music in other rooms - the latter is not ideal as you really want people to know whats going on.
did a gig at an old school last year where they had another company in to o architectural lighting and sound during the day- they set up an fm broadcast for background music during the day.....was nice.

Semi retired, just running the company (with the odd gig here or there (with a roadie to do all the dirty work)) Hopefully around the same number (or a few more)of shows on the road. More high end shows (actually that's happeng now anyway)

Not really sure, although I've always said that I'll stop when I don't enjoy doing discos anymore.

I'm working on alternative entertainment strategies for the future but will need some training in these areas.

I'm just trying to push out my other technical areas, as until about a year ago DJing wasn't as frequent, and the technical/theatre stuff was the card in front, it has switched round, which is OK, i enjoy DJing, would just like to re-arrange "the cards" maybe. Although I'm doing quite a bit of LD-ing this year so slowly moving there.

End of the day, I suppose I will be doing what I'm in demand for. Wether that will be technical and theatre or DJing we shall see!

After 40 years in the business I have observed that very few people become rich running mobile discos. You need to branch out into other areas if you are ambitiously aquisative. As for me I have derived a good living from it for 40 years and had some fantastic fun. Will I still be doing it in 5 years? I really dont know. I didnt expecrt to be doing it this long. I thought I would be a millionaire sex symbol by the time I was 30! I expect the business will give me up at some stage but at the moment.....

I learn humility and hone my craft in the slog that is mobile DJing...

My hope is to eventually be making more money playing the music I'm passionate about - a mixture of NuSkool Breaks, Funky Breaks/Big Beat, Deep/Funky House, Acid Jazz and Trip-Hop. In other words a café (not Del Mar) on a beach somewhere (not Ibiza).
