I can't think of many comedians like him that are still around, nowadays you have to watch what you say, or you'll have a media storm raging around you. It is said that, to this day, Manning never did understand what all the fuss was about! :)

He reduced comedy to it's lowest common denominator then added sexist & racist remarks, yeah, real funny. Political correctnes has gone over the top these days & he'd never get away with his act if starting out now (apart from the fact his jokes were rubbish), there's nothing wrong with making fun of other races / religions / the opposite sex etc as long as it's not over the top (IMHO) & many can do it without having to resort to cheap jibes. You can't compare him with any of the people mentioned above (including RCB) they were all genuinely funny.

I'd say that's a bit harsh, I wouldn't have had you down as a member of the PC brigade. Yeah, I found him funny, the reactions he provoked probably helped make him funnier.

I agree with the PC going over the top....it's getting to be a joke itself now.
You have to be extremely carful with what you say or mention at work nowadays.

He may have been a bigot and racist but people flocked to see this guy perform...even selling out in minutes....he must have done something right for the masses.
If were taking racist where does Jim Davison fit then??

I'm not a bigot or racist but grew up with type of humour going around...I'm now a little wiser and older to know that this type of humour is not healthy.

As the the thread stated at the begin...'Another King Of Comedy'...the list from above seems to be growing and the people I grew up are passing on. Each one passing bring's back memories....is that wrong?

I remember when the alternative comedians came along in the 80's. I just didn't get it, and completely agreed with a description I read about alternative comedy "It's the same as normal comedy, but without the jokes"

Also, In my opinion, Cannon & Ball and even Morecambe & Wise were massively over-rated...and nowhere near as talented as the two Ronnies, but they were still massively popular & massively successful.

Cannon and Ball, Morecambe and Wise...over-rated...not sure about that these guy's had t.v. series on at weekends...as well as the Two Ronnies....they must have done something right, you don't get prime weekend t.v. slot's for doing nothing.:)

I'd agree with that, I don't see why the two Ronnies aren't seen as at least equal to Morecambe & Wise.

Cannon & ball over rated PERHAPS? :eek: At the height of their career, they were earning £50,000 a week each. For what? In my opinion, they had virtually no talent. The only thing I remember is Bobby Ball standing there, twanging his braces & saying "Rock on Tommy"...how incredibly funny & talented...not!

As for me losing the plot because I think Morecambe & Wise were over rated, maybe I have & maybe I haven't, but it's just my own honest opinion.
