Sat Nav

My Sat Nav died on me on the way home from a gig on Friday night. So...time to buy a new one. I can't live without one anymore.

Just interested in any suggestions anyone has. I've been using a navman and I had problems with it from day one, so won't be purchasing that brand again.

Budget is around £200....any recommendations?

Sorry, We have a Navman F20 - currently about £90 I think and it's been superb (other than sending via the valleys to the rear of the Cardiff west services on Sunday)

If you can go a little higher the tom tom 910 is superb, remote control, bluetooth, media player & 12gb hard drive - I use it as a backup backup backup!

A couple of my friends use the Tom Tom 510, and they have both recommended this to me, as I'm considering getting a SatNav.

They're avilable on ebay for £180 - £200

I don't see the need for Sat Nav, what advantage does it offer (for a single journey) over a map? :confused:

I can see the need if you're a courier or taxi driver, but for a single journey, it's very easy to plan it out on a map!

Have you tried reading a map whilst driving round a city centre, whilst watching out for pedestrians/cyclists/traffic lights/speed cameras etc. etc. ??

I agree Sat Nav is a bit of a waste for main roads etc. but when your in a city centre, or trying to find somewhere in the middle of nowhere, then its fantastic!

Can't remember which make it is (think maybe Tom Tom) but the current advert for their sat-nav makes me laugh every time I see it: -

....has a 40% bigger screen so you can see more of the road ahead.
Surely if you had a 40% bigger screen osbcuring your vision, you'd see LESS of the road ahead :)

It's the kind of gaffe that someone at the ad agency really should have picked up on before running with it!

Well, I have used Sat Nav in one of my jobs for multi-drop deliveries, and it is handy for that. The only cities near me are Edinburgh and Glasgow, and I suppose I know them fairly well.

If I moved down south, I'd probably use Sat Nav (if nothing else, to find my way back to Bonnie Scotland :D )

And what happens if you take a wrong turn? If you have a sat nav it re-routes you. You also have a good idea of when you will arrive.

I couldn't live without mine now - especially to find places in London. I also use it to price up jobs and work out travelling distance for dance floors etc

As well as that my TomTom has the facility to find petrol stations, ATMs etc etc

A little tip - SatNav has become one of the most nickable items in the car. If you have a home address, I would suggest you remove it from the memory as they then know you are not home...:)

Picked up the new SatNav today. Just installed the celeb voice pack, I can't explain how amusing it is being directed about town by Ozzy Osbourne. :D

i,d be totally lost without mine. I drive around the city often and it has made life so much easier and like Darren says if you do get lost or take wrong turning, you soon get back on course. Great invention if only to find Mcdonalds.
