Sometime people really are complete idiots.

We have been getting calls - I assume via our 0845 number for the last two weeks. My wife picks up and he uses her name and tanks her for all the support she's given the childrens charity and would she like to upgrade her adviet..... you know the sort of thing.

I answer the phone and he asks for my wife, I say she's not there and it's fine to discuss things with me and he hangs up, not even a no thanks. Then he calls back and I ask him not to ca.... hangs up on me

And so on, maybe 5 or 6 calls a day.

Odly this is a mobile number, so I have called back, got the voicemail and left at least three messages asking the guy not to call back ever again, the last occasion even threatoned to report him to the police. Yet still he calls.

I would really like the chance to post this number for you all so you are forwarned, but it does seem the admin do not aprove - maybe my change to the end of this post will help?

I had dozens of calls from Children's Charites after I advertised in magazine and had some very abusive calls from their salesmen after I refused to 'upgrade' from our supposedly agreed advert.

When I told them I was not advertising at all with them, they threatened me with court and all sorts of things mainly as a scare, so I just told to go and stick their head where the sun don't shine and each tme they rang I just hung up. after a whaile they stopped calling

Was just going to see if he wanted to buy some advertising space on my website, 35'000 hits so far, might be worth his while.
I could maybe call him 3, 4 or 5 times a day or just as he is sitting down to his tea after a hard day at work, surely he wouldn't see that as a nuisance as that's what he does all day to others!!! :mad:

My advice is to get caller display, so you can see the number of the person who is calling you before you pick up the call. It only costs a couple of pounds a month. Then, when a call comes in from this number, you can just ignore it. I'm sure that the person concerned will soon give up after that.

Thats a good idea...but I don't think the Telephone preference service people can do anything unless you've already registered with them. Ricesnaps, If you haven't already, I'd google them for their details & register. The idea is that it stops all cold calls. I registered about a year back, and it reduced my sales calls by about 90%. Also, if you DO get any calls, you can tell them you're registered with the TPS & ask why they're calling & they will be very apologetic & hang up. Please note that it does take a few months after registering for your details to filter through to all companies.

While you're at it, it's also possible to register with the Mail preference service. This stops all junk mail dropping on your doormat, an again was about 90% successful in my case.

If only there was an email preference service to stop all spam! We can dream!

I registered with the TPS as I was getting up to 10 calls a day trying to sell me something.

It has stopped 99% of these calls now :)

Well worth doing!

I also found that the thompson local had been giving out my number on a list to interested companies :mad: I soon put a stop to that too!

I'm not sure about the calls being diverted via your 0845 service, I guess you'd need to check with the 0845 provider. When you register your number with the TPS, I see no reason why you can't give them an 0845 number, but like I said, they'll be able to confirm this...or maybe you can check with the TPS themselves.

As far as loosing genuine callers, that's not the case. Registering with the service doesn't physically stop anyone calling you, it just puts your telephone number onto a central database of people who have opted not to receive unsolicited sales calls.

Before any company start cold calling, they first have to check that the numbers are not registered with the TPS.

Like Sarah said, I've found it works very well.

I use the TPS for both private and business phones and it does work very well. As others have mentioned, if you do get an unwanted call, just tell them you are with the TPS and they are very apologetic.

Worth while in my book.

they tell you that they only want reputable businesses and tell you that they will give you id cards etc to tell clients that you are verified think they ask for references as well, so your auntie , the bloke down the pub and your next door neighbour should do the trick.....

Verification Association right lets blow the lid on this one they are infact this lot http://ifindagroup.com/ Im on their Ifindawedding.com section some of you may remember this under another web name GetHitched.com and you are also with them hense there continued ringing of you every 5 seconds to upgrade your account to all there ofshoot accounts

Report them to TPS and get them bumped off on all there sites
