Sliding pitch faders on CD players

I've always wondered something about the sliding pitch faders on CD players.

When you slide them UP, the pitch slows DOWN and when you slide them DOWN, the pitch speeds UP.....which seems a bit strange to me.

Why aren't they the other way around?

Surely that would make more sense.

Any ideas?

Dunno about now, but years ago different manufacturers put them on different ways. (as I found out when I was trying to mix something unsuccessfully!)

Stick back - nose up (pitch up)
Stick forward - nose down (pitch down)

Isn't pitching what aircraft do when they tilt forwards or backwards?

Just trying to think of things that work that way.

I think its because of the Vinyl days.. if you imagine you're pushing a record foward then your other hand would be slightly increasing the pitch on the fader.. if you try pushing the deck and pushing the pitch up, it just seems weird. The other way round both hands are going clockwise so it feels more natural.

That said though, it could just be like that because of being used to always having the pitch fader that way round...
