View Full Version : Active Sub, choice of three

Hi folks
Its time to grow my set up and im looking for an active bass speaker. I need more thump and for now im going to try just one.
I currently use a pair of class D JAC15 500W with a DARE 800w amp

The choice of three are...

Mackie SWA 1501 (£300 second hand)
CARLSBRO SLAMMER 600W (£300 new)
Studiomaster VPX-SUB 600w (£250 new)

Your comments and/or advice is greatly appriciated.

Hi,

Why don't you introduce yourself in the Newbies section.

You'll no doubt find some interesting views on the Forum to your question.

Personally, for me, I would go for the Mackie but not the 1501. The components and quality of the 1500 is, in my opinion, much better.

i got a carlsbro gamma sub base bin 600w powered and its a great speaker

What a nightmare, I knew this would happen.
Cant decide which way to go.
Im very tempted by the db technologies Sub 15 Speaker Active and the Carlsbro Slammer, both just shy of £500.
or the PEAVEY PRO SUB P POWERED at half the price of the others.
Is the db going to be twice as good as the Peavey?
I need to get to a good supplier to test some out. AND then I find that Class D have an active 15" dammit!

Peavey are well made speakers cant go wrong there. I know a lot of people use them and they tend to be lighter than a lot of other subs.

Big thumbs up for the peavey prosub-p here.

One does me for all but the biggest venues. Sports halls etc. I use two but clubs, functions rooms etc. usually get away with just one.

I must admit i am coming round to the idea of a db sub 15.
On the theory of "buy the best you can afford" and the more power the better. 800w rms and spl of 133 is very tempting plus there are not too heavy.
£500 is a hefty wedge for me to splash out but i spose its an investment and all that.
