Following on from another thread….

We all seem to know quite a bit about this subject….so what’s you tipple?

Me lager….Stella - Continental, made in Leuven or Louvain. University city..plenty of eye candy there.;)
Most popular and well branded larger….but not one of the best. IMO.

Did you know that in the Belguim they have lot’s of different beers (http://www.beersofeurope.co.uk/acatalog/Beers_of_Europe__Belgian_Beer_9.html?gclid=CIiVx_O Si40CFSSDEAodi17Rlgbeer)some of the best made are by Trappist monks coming in at 9% and above. This stemmed from ‘Bad water’ surround the cities during the 16th century…I think. The monk's decided to brew beer....good lads!!

I occasionally visit Leuven for work and stop in a nice little hotel that has 250 beers…:eek: ..not quite worked my way through all of them yet!!!:D

I guess I'm a bit unusual here...as I'm not keen on beer or lager, and I can't stand whisky or gin.

My fave tipples are vodka (not neat!), cider and wine.

I don't drink much though, as I'm out working most nights, and never even have one when I'm driving.

I probably only have a drink 2 or 3 times a month...and that's usually at home when I have a night off...as going to a pub would be a bit of a busman's holiday!

Jack Daniels is all about the name, it's overpriced! Have you tried Jim Beam, as used by Corabar Steve? Much nicer! Even Asda own label bourbon is as good as JD.. :D

My faves are Tennents, Stella, and Whisky & Irn Bru (any whisky really, I'm a bit more picky if I'm drinking it straight). Can't stand cider or Guinness! :rolleyes:

Is it?? Maybe it's only the takeaway stuff which is bad for you, but I know what goes in my stir fry's and curries, and it's generally quite healthy. Maybe they pump up the salt and fat to make it taste better for the 'chips with everything' British public? :)

These are the more know ones but if you like Trappist beers you really need to try 'Westmalle Dubbel' or 'Rochforte 6, 8, 10' these a really good....

Also the bar tenders will not sell you the beer if they don't have the correct glass.

I don't get any highs from drinking, I mainly drink beer, and it's more for the taste and to relax. I suppose it is a waste of money, but then so are sweets, DVDs, computer games, holidays.... we are lucky enough to live in a wealthy country, so we should be grateful for a few luxuries now and again! :bowdown: :party2:

That's a bit harsh, I would say it's more down to lack of discipline applied by both the parents and the authorities.

That's a contributory factor too, but my point was. If somebody doesn't want a drink, there seems to be a tendancy to force is to strong a word, but go on, you know you want to, sort of thing which I have seen get pretty heavy handed. To the extent that the person concerned caves in & has a drink that they didn't want in the first place.

Used to be the same as you Daryl - but it now just all tastes the same to me as in beer is beer is beer.

So I don't bother with it. Nor wine and never really been a spirits drinker.

A few years ago I was on a break in Stoke to visit Alton Towers (for the umpteenth time!). We decided to go on to Burton On Trent to visit the Bass Brewery tour and museum. When you paid for the tour you got vouchers for drinks in the bar afterwards. I didn't know that Caffreys was also brewed here (I thought it was only brewed in Ireland but I was wrong!) and I got a couple of pints of Caffreys. Best ones I've ever had!

I am about to start the journey into Yorkshire beer. I have the tasting notes at the ready and the first one, Old Legover, is currently chilling down to 54 degrees. Should be ready for initial tasting in approx 5 mins.
