Any Problems Using Smoke Machines Since Smoking Ban

Hi guys has anybody come across any problems using a smoke or haze machine since the smoking ban come in I done a wedding on 7/7/07 and used a haze machine with no problems would like to know if anyone has had a problem

I think some people may be missing the point here.

As I understand it, the smoking ban only relates to PEOPLE smoking ciggys, cigars & pipes.

It makes no difference to smoke machines, haze machines, chimneys, car exhausts, bonfires, fireworks, companies that produce smoked bacon etc etc etc!

true rob but some places may ????? think oh well we cant have people smoking in here lets get safety conscious and fit smoke detectors which will effect machine use ....

i have been able to use my haze machine in 3 venues in 18 months here??? usually im not even out of the car before they tell me i cant use it.

I know...same here. It's always been the case, in fact I dont even bother taking out my smoke machine these days. However, that's to do with smoke machines setting off fire alarms...not laws on smoking.

see what you're saying rob it shouldnt theoretically effect the use of smoke machines at all unless detectors are fitted as a result of smoking no longer being allowed in the venue.

Ive not had any problems bar one around here dave, i was reluctant to use this week but didnt have any problems just the odd blast for effects, Alot of problem with smoke machines is people who pump out alot all night long or have it on constant

I have noticed that people dont seem to like smoke machines anymore.
In fact I have made a deflecter fitted to the end which stops the smoke going straight out onto the floor. Instead smoke shoots upwards and in front of the lights. This makes the lighting look very good and stops auntie flow choking and looking unimpressed on the dance floore.

I saw a post on here a while ago but cant remember who posted it, they suggested placing the machine behind facing the wall so by the time the fog hits the lights it is even rather than coming out as a sudden burst straight onto the floor. I tried it at my last gig and worked good for me. Just depends whether you enjoy getting covered in smoke...doesnt bother me.

More people are now hiring my haze machine rather than smoke since the ban,,,,guess "some" people see the smoke fly out the machine and thing "oh heck, Im gonna get cancer"!!!!:rolleyes:

IMHO, you get a much better effect with a haze rather than smoke. The haze machine projection points up ( as most machines do) and looks great across the lighting rig.

With the smoke machine however, Ive used a small portable chrome fan in front of each one and have to say it does look kinda impressive as its sucked in and blown out across the floor.

We have done a few dance events and a smoke machine either side of the rig with fans going look very nightcluby..!:cool:

I'm back to a smoke machine and a fan now, having struggles with an Antari Fazer. I'd say it's only about 30% of the venues around here that won't let you use the machine and that has absolutely nothing to do with the smoking ban

sales have gone down since the ban! infact about a 50% reduction!

to be honest i think smoke machines are a must nowadays as effect lights look pants without them!

a little bit of smoke goes a long way!

I wouldn't say that at all.

Smoke or haze enhances the lighting, but if you are using effects with decent gobos and colours they look fine.

Totally agree with that, decent lighting and you wont need any haze or smoke!

Agreed, I pointed my lights at the lovely white ceiling on Saturday with only a bit making it down to the people on the dancefloor - it looked great and no one squinted or looked uncomfortable all night.

well nobody told me but i once set off the fire alarms with a smoke in sunderlands afc football ground cleared the whole building and being a newcastle
united supporter i smiled a bit
