PC or Mac?

I'm planning my set-up and have decided on a pair of desktop computers with internal hard drives, plus a USB external hard drive as back-up (and an mp3, just for good measure). I can build my own pc's and I prefer them to laptops, as desktops tend to be more powerful (quicker) £ for £.

My main question is whether to use a Windows-based PC or to go for a Mac, as Mac's don't tend to 'crash' like Bill Gates' OS!

What do you guys use, those that are HDD DJ's?

Used OTS products on older windows XP laptop hardware for ages and never so much as a glitch. Machines are quarantined and have all unnecessary s/w and utilities removed.

Main playout is an IBM Thinkpad T21, P3, 256MB RAM, 10GB IDE HDD, USB1.1!

Works a treat. Don't spend more than you have to.

Thanks. I must admit that I rarely have any problems with my computer, unless the kids have been using the internet. As you say, with all unnecessary software removed, there is nothing that should cause a problem, apart from hardware failure, which IS very rare.

I have enough parts laying around at home to build a reasonable machine tonight!

Would say PC rather than mac as the range of different software available for DJ'ing is better

I have a PC based system where i have a sata raid array 0+1 (striped and mirrored) so if one hard drive in the PC dies mid-show thenn the PC doesnt even miss a beat i just replace the faulty drive when i get home and it rebuilds itself from the others.

I do carry a spare PC and a USB2 hard drive with my music on it just in case of a disaster but havent ever had to use it yet :)

Just been looking around for a home PC hard drive (internal) as my has gone AWOL......and no back up.......:( ....MD's not a happy bunny.

Needs to be IDE - ATA but not SATA............:confused: :D
