Christmas Do...

With the work's Christmas do looming.....and I'm on the committee....:rolleyes:
You can guess what comes next....it's down to me for entertainment....well two of us.

We have a good end of year bash, everyone looks forward to it - slap up meal, drinks..band and entertainment. (disco)

Have been approached to do disco....and have quoted the price - double what I usually charge....not because it's work but because of the day and being near to Christmas.

I have been told i'm to exspensive....:confused: I think they exspect a discount....I've also been asked for quotes....fair enough...

I've put a good case together to justify charges - PAT / PLI, will turn up, know the company and who everyone is could do a really good playlist.. etc...

Half of me's not bothered really....drunks, your :Censored: , drinks coming very close to my gear.....general headache....!!
Half say's yes......££££....!!

I used to be the muggins who would supply the disco for occassions like this, but then you miss out on the party, and later regret it. It all comes down to the money I suppose, which is your call!

stick to your guns Tony you run a business just like the one you work for. I do a christmas bash every year for my step mum and she pays full whack and i get free drinks thrown in.

if they say you are too expensive either go to your party and get hammered with the rest of them or wait because another booking will come along at that time of year.

You can ask....£400....I didn't put it down because I didn't want to do the old 'this is my price bit'....wanted the thread more of an opion with out money involved if that makes sense....!!!:)

the point is even though its your work , you still run a business and if you feel are worth that money then stick with it mate really. at christmas i'm more than happy to spend evenings in watching my kids grow up if people don't want to pay what i'm asking.

I thought that would be your answer and probably the one that was already in my mind....just wanted a sanity check.

I have plenty of things to do with the run up to Christmas...so i'll leave it to them....so I will either be working or walking up and saying.....'Err..i'm a DJ...spilling my nice cold lager every where....' :rolleyes: :D

In a way, I think you've answered your own question, as you said half of you isn't bothered really...so I'd stick with the quote you gave, and if they get someone cheaper, then you'll be able to enjoy yourself on the night, let your hair down & have a drink or 10!

Charge your normal rate the taxman doesnt understand "discounts for friends etc".

I charge my full rate whoever is booking me whether it be friend , work colleague or even family as if you dont people tend to take advantage and want everything for nothing. At the end of the day you are a business with overheads not a charity or some moron who dooes a bit of DJ'ing for pocket money in their spare time.

I charge my full rate whoever is booking me whether it be friend , work colleague or even family as if you dont people tend to take advantage and want everything for nothing. At the end of the day you are a business with overheads not a charity or some moron who dooes a bit of DJ'ing for pocket money in their spare time.

No i'm not bothered but do like doing gig's ....it's a bug and I'd rather be working than spending.....we shall see, we shall see....:)

I pretty much agree with everything Dave has said. Stick to you guns, if they don't book you just go to the party and have fun.

Like everyone else has said its up to you. Stick to your price BUT I would only add that I charge double on New Years Eve and Christmas Eve, Day and Boxing Day. I THINK most dj's I know are the same. They may put a premium on some popular dates in December but not 100%
