I've only had my website since I went full time, a couple of years ago.

If you Google the name Rob James, 33 million results come up, but...

...the 3rd result on the FIRST page is MY site!

Why would I be so high on the list? (not that I'm complaining!).

I know nothing about this sort of thing, I'm just curious to know the answer!

i've always wondered why if you do "spirits high" i'm bang on at no 1! Again you'll get no complaints from me either.

Any web gurus help us out here?

Google is localised, so you're not up against every single "Rob James" or "Spirits High" worldwide, just the UK (although Rob's 33 million figure will be worldwide, they're just ordered differently in each region).

Also you'll be quite high because the search terms actually appear in your domains, title tags and numerous times in your page copy.

If there are inbound link to you from other sites which contain the search term (as in your sig SH) this probably helps quite a bit too.

All pretty straightforward stuff really....unfortunately you can't repeat it for every term you want to be found for....that's silly :)

EDIT: Forgot to say, being on a reputable paid host goes a long long way to improving your search engine results, Rob.

OK that last bit's not strictly speaking true :)
