Any web specialists reading?

Good.

I've had my eye on an additional domain which is currently registered but appears to be parked. Anyway, the Renewal Date was 14-07-07 and it's now showing on 'whois' as "Renewal Required".

How long after the renewal date must I wait before it's put back in the pool and I can purchase it?

It's a .co.uk

Thanks :)

A good question ,why not just get in touch with the company who is responsible for the domain and express your interest:)

Because I'd rather pay £3 a year :p

It'll become available to register about 3 months after the expiry date.

Register at somewhere like www.pool.com and add it to a backorder if you want to try and catch it as soon as it "drops" - although this will cost you a minimum of $60 USD. I've got quite a few domains this way.

Thanks Marc.

I'll put a note in my diary. Not too fussed if it comes off or not, would just be nice to add to the arsenal!

Just done something very similar myself with a domain i wanted originally but could not get. I wanted www.unlimitedsounds.co.uk but site was no longer used by its current owner, tried contacting the owner and got no reply, so ended up with www.unlimited-sounds.co.uk
Found this on a website and found it to be pretty accurate

Domains go through a 3-step grace period after expiration until they get released by the registry. A typical expiration will be consist of
1) Registrar Hold (usually 30-45 days)
2) Redemption Period (usually 30 days)
3) Pending Delete (usually 5 days)

Above info from WebmasterWorld.com

It became available the other day after following the above so i now have both domains

Hope this helps

You could forward all the domains to the same place, although Google starts to blacklist you if their identical.

What you describe is the expiration process of a TLD (i.e. com, .net etc). For .co.uk's it's slightly different, although the timeframe is roughly the same. See Nominet's FAQ (http://www.nominet.org.uk/registrants/maintain/faq/#happen).

It's called domain parking. Most hosts will let you park at least 1 additional domain to your main site without any addtional charges.

Google won't penalise you for parked domain(s) (I've got one site with very good SERPS results with 16 parked domains on it). You'll probably find they just won't list the parked domains (it sees them as duplicates), but your main domain will not be penalised. However, if you make numerous sites all with only slightly different content, you might get penalised.

I find most of my clients ask me to register domains and park them to their accounts just to stop the opposition from getting them, or with a mind to use it for something later on....

Ah, Dave you missed out on derbyshirediscos.co.uk then?

I've got that!

Also got myweddingdisco.co.uk but yet to use it in anger.

and a few other useful ones managed to get my name as a .co.uk that just points at the mainsite, useful if people remember me but not the disco name (well I thought so)

Was thinking of going into the bouncy castles game at some point

So registered bounceonus.co.uk not sure if that would be seen as family friendly though!

I already own www.[mysurname].co.uk.

I enquired about www.marc.co.uk but the guy wants £500 for it. I've been after it for a while now, funny thing is about 4 years ago he only wanted £200, and I wish I'd taken it then :(
