Buying CDs

Quickly guys--a CD I want is available from play.com for £7-99 or HMV £9-99

Both have delivery included.

Have used HMV no problems--anyone used play.com?

Do they post from UK/ Channel Islands like HMV?

Dont want to get into a nightmare for a small saving,

Any feedback?

Play are fine - I've bought loads of stuff from them including laptops, dvds, cds, other computer stuff and never had any problems.

The stuff does come from the Channel Islands I think.

Go for it.

I'm still waiting on a CD that I ordered (for personal use thankfully) from HMV last November.

I got an email last week saying it's still on order with the suppliers. I wouldn't mind so much had I not been in HMV Oxford Circus 3 days prior & seen 3 of them in the racks!

Haven't used HMV much, no problems when I have. Play have always been 100%, and I've ordered literally hundreds of items from them :)

I would say that HMV were way too slow to get up to speed with their website. They obviously had the advantage because everyone knows them, as they already had their franchise throughout the UK. However, they were over-priced online for years, and only started offering free delivery a year or two ago (Play have had free delivery on everything for years). HMV could have had a very firm grip on the entertainment market in the UK, but missed a big chance, I'd say.

On-line record stores are usually entirely separate and autonomous business units to their bricks and mortar counterparts, even when they share a name. That said, it would make good business sense for the virtual HMV to buy the back-stock from the 'real' HMV.

Good point, you would think they would have a logistics system going on, hence eliminating situations like Steve's. As I said before, I really don't think they've kept up with the competition and technological changes. They should hire me :p

I use Play.com quite a bit. No probs at all, delivery usually within 5 days.

http://www.dvd.co.uk are pretty good too.
