Two Discos cancelled tonight...

Had 2 discos tonight. 1 a wedding a the Hundred house great whitley and one in the heart of tenbury wells (been on itv news last night flooded!):mad: :mad: :mad: so lost out on some money tonight

Don't you have cancellation terms in your contracts? I have if I am unable to play due to curcumstances beyond my control I still charge. I once had a gig where the cliets managed to start a fire. Only small but manager refused to continue to the reception part of their wedding so I turned up and was told to go back home again but got paid in full.
Not exactly a noble thing to do I guess but I make my living from this and have to charge for short notice cancellations or I dont eat or pay the rent.

I have cancellation terms in my contract although not for natural disasters such as flood hurricane earthquakes etc as i'm also a nice chap and think if someones big day has been trashed by the almighty the last thing they need is me demanding cash :D :D :D ho hum i'll never be rich. :D :D :D

Saying that a lot of couples are now opting for wedding insurance to cover exactly the types of things posted on here so i wouldnt feel bad if chargng for a short notice cancellation as in the scale of things the DJ's wages are nothing compared to the fees other companies will charge for the cancellation of their portion of the wedding.

Yep sadly i've had 2 cancellations this weekend too - well 1 cancel and 1 i've had to find cover for as couldn't get down the M5 or M50... meaning i'm over £500 out of pocket this weekend..... :( sometimes i think a "proper job" would be better..... :(

I feel for all the guys who have lost out this weekend chins up chaps happened to me earlier in the year 2 cancellations and a postponement in a 2 week period and when you have probably already budgeted the money its hard.

Well i couldn't make last nights one, and had a complete nightmare trying to find a way through.. then trying to find cover.. and then trying to get back home again!!

Tonights has been cancelled as the venue is now underwater. I'm also the best part of £500 down, and I'm sure my rep has taken a knock over last night too.. so its a disaster really. I'm also full time.. so bills still need paying :(

And to add to that.. Dads car got caught in the flood and now won't start.. we've only just managed to get it back home. My brother is also stuck at his girlfriends house, but they're off on holiday tonight.. so has to get to somewhere else to stay, as the roads are all cut off for him to get back to here.

Oh.. and there's also no beers in the house!

Thats been solved now.. the roads have cleared up a bit, so managed to make it to a supermarket on the outskirts of Evesham :D

We had a drive around Sedgeberrow.. which is the village thats been on national news, with 60 people being evacuated by the RAF, its just up the road from me.

Most of the village is ok, but then you just hit one patch where the roads are caked in mud and there are cars in hedges and suspended in trees. There was a big Daly van skewed across a junction with bits of peoples fences and other stuff all washed up and stuck up against it. Also, peoples fridges and other appliances strewn about all over the place.

I didn't have the heart to take any pictures as there were people around bailing out their houses and clearing everything up.

Went to look at Evesham too.. you've probably seen it on the news, but its just mad.. the whole of the water front is submerged. There were 3 fire trucks, which have come from all over the place, there was also a rubber dingy moored up which they've been using to resuce people all day.

Aside from that, the journey there was completley sureal.. its like a ghost town/county.. cars abandonded left, right and center and stones and mud washed up from the fields and down from the hill. The weather is still pretty bleak, although it isn't raining anymore!

I can only recall having 3 cancellations.

1) A wedding, where the couple split up BEFORE the wedding day :eek:

2) A birthday party where the birthday boy became very ill the day before, so the party had to be cancelled.

3) A 40th last year when all the family started trying to take over with the organising. This lead to the birthday girl getting upset, so she decided to cancel the party.

Not bad in 24 years of gigging...it equates to one cancellation every 8 years, which I can cope with!

I turned up at a wedding a few years back only to be told that the groom had punched his mother-in-law in the mouth and was in custody!

I turned and drove away as fast as I could.

Wasn't going to DJ, although the guests that were left tried to get me to play. No chance!! I'd been paid the week before, the wedding party & close family had all gone, never heard from them again. :)
