Did a wedding last night at one of my regular venues. Only a small one with about 80 people of mixed ages. Very friendly and pleasant people. They hadnt cut the cake after the wedding breakfast and had already vacated the function room when I got there at 6.30. We set up and started playing background music as they all started drifting back at about 7.30. The plan was to cut the cake and make presentations at 8.30 and then do the first dance. This all duly happened and initial responses were good with a packed dance floor for fist dance and a second smoocher. There were some enthusiastic dancers for my first set and then it was buffet. Afterwards I filled the floor with slowies again and went into a party set about 9.30 which went well. Trouble is there were a lot of families with small children and elderly people and from 10pm onwards they started to drift away. The groom spent most of the night drinking and the bride didnt dance. By 11pm there were about a dozen people left who were totally uninterested in dancing - just chatting and boozing. They didnt have any requests but they had paid me till midnight and I was just musical wallpaper. I suppose I fulfilled a function but I often feel with gigs like this they could have knocked it on the head at 11 and simply retired to the hotel bar.

One of the least satisfying gigs, can be weddings, where some folk may have started at 6am and can never be expected to make it to 1am, when you are booked to. Plus also the ones with small kids, who were always going to leave early.
I personally used to hate people who asked " why don't you get everybody dancing" at the beginning of the night. " Because I don't want to spend the last two hours on my own, you twit!"

I was doing a wedding a few months ago and had no-one in the room for about an hour (it was a small extremely hot room with closed windows 'cos of neighbours), and when it came to 11:25pm, the bride came in and told me to finish. I was about to do this and half a dozen people turned up wanting to dance....so I had to carry on.

My wedding last night was a bit strange, asked for Dub, Drum&Bass, R&B, OLD Skool dance, Old Skool rave etc.
Our new village hall, Set-up and running by 17:00, nice & sunny, no floods so the adults stayed out side smoking till about 21:00. Kept the kids happy with cha cha slide, macarena etc.

Most of the guests went home with their kids and I was left with 25 hard-core ravers who danced like nutters till midnight. I had a great night, played all my old Rave, D&B & Harcore anthems.........not your normal wedding!

I put in 7.5kW of Bass heavy Sound on the request of the Bride, 3.2kw of sub alone. NICE! :D :D

Similar wedding last night.
About 80 ish for a room of about 3 times that, big dance floor. Managed to get a few people dancing....bride had a really good time, played everthing on her playlist - so she was dancing most of the night.
No show on the dance floor for the groom....
Most of them were just drinkers.

No speaches - No first dance - No cutting the cake.
Not much fun...put a lot of work into it and just felt a bit deflated!!

Oh and one really rude drunk shouting at me!!

But the bride did thank me right at the very end saying she had a good time.....result I suppose!!

Saturday's wedding was an early set-up, whilst the B+G were at the church, so I could just walk in after the speeches and start the party.

Despite meeting at the venue and going through how much space was needed etc., arrived to find we'd been stuffed into a tight corner :o . Plenty of negotiating with the caterers later managed to get just enough room to set up the rig the B+G had requested although this left a dancefloor around the size of an A4 pad(!).

So I pop off home for a few hours and come back at the agreed time, to find they'd not even started speeches - usual story - so spent an hour in the bar :beer1:

Finally they get through, and I meet up with B+G and suggest they get a few tables moved so that folks can dance; meanwhile I stick some background on and get the video stuff running.

Anyway, I look up after about 10 minutes and the staff had cleared the middle row of tables from the room and were starting on some of the ones at the edge. So I waited. And waited. A 7:30 start was now a 9:15 start and counting. They then proceeded to clear out ALL the tables from the room and left all the chairs stacked up school-hall style :eek: Totally screwed up the acoustics as well!

Luckily the crowd were up for a boogie 'cos there was nowhere for them to sit!! There was beer all over the floor after about 5 minutes of them leaping around! Oops upside your head was more like a boat race - everyone stood up with wet bums!

Anyway a great night was had by all but what an odd thing to do!?

Sorry Rob, should've said. Got the usual 'duh-brain' response of "we're just doing what the manager told us to do". Needless to say "the manager" was nowhere to be seen. B+G didn't seem to be bothered, so I left it alone!
