Girl's 18th birthday. Now I don't normally do 18th's, but this was a repeat booking from the place I played NYE and would quite like to do again this year, so I obliged.
Anyway, had the request form back with the booking... lots of chart/recent pop & rock, some 70s/80s disco/funk and lots of cheesey action songs.
Easy peasy (or so I thought). 8:00 start, midnight finish, buffet around 9 (and, as it transpired, stripper).
So background music on from about 7:30, less danceable charty stuff, kicking straight into poppy stuff at 8. No-one interested in dancing, predictably, as the majority are around the 16-20 age bracket.
9:00 buffet & stripper. Back to background music - a few mashes.
9:30 music back on - "Can we have YMCA now?". A bit early, methinks, so drag it out a bit with a few disco classics - managed to get a few older rellies up for a bit of Abba, Bee Gees etc.
9:45 "YMCA please!!!!".
10:00 I relent, and we have the usual YMCA, macarena, cha cha, oops etc. for about 15 mins as they start to drift back to the bar.
10:15 - 11:00 I try EVERYTHING. Not one request despite lots of asking. Decide to stick to the playlist and try all styles of music from the last 5 years or so. Nothing. A few feet tapping, not much else.
11:15 everyone's gone (except birthday girl and a couple of family), and I'm asked to wind down.
Went to speak with birthday girl & family and they were absolutely delighted with the evening, even paid a £20 tip, took cards, will recommend us to all their friends etc..
WTF? :zip:
