Although I am busy generally with bookings up to 2 years ahead I have unusually not yet got a gig for New Years Eve. Normally I am booked up in January or February but not this year. Talking to a few other people It seems that bookings are a little slower for Old Years Night this year. How is everyone else?

I've had a few enquiries for that night, but less enquiries for it than last year. Not that it matters, I don't work NYE. I'm sure something will come along for you Theo.

I'm sure it will too. There have only been 2 NYE's that I havent worked - 1968 when I moved to kent and 2000 when everyone was quiet after the previous year.

I never work 31/12 and usually go to a party although this year I was asked as a favour to do a slot at a Wedding for free as it was a friend of my wifes:eek:

As it happens ive now been cancelled because the venue are asking mega money for the night. Unlike me:bang:

So I cant even get a gig for nothing:D :D :D

I wonder if the novelty of NYE is wearing off as in most towns over the weekend it seems like its NYE every week and prices are sky high.

Must admit--its nice to join in the party--not have to run it:D

Whats everyone charging--DOUBLE BUBBLE?

I got offered work today for nye in the kent area (outskirts of ashford) but turned it down!

i worked every nye from 1970 till about four years ago when I had a gig cancelled (but paid in full) so I had a party at home & had such a good time have never worked nye since! I think the whole things a farce really and don't see why people make so much fuss (& charge so much)

Last year was the first time in 23years that I had no NYE gig.
I went out on the town, the whole of Weymouth dresses in fancy dress and goes 'First Footing' around the pubs generaly.

Didn't really enjoy it, would rather have been DJing.

Nothing for this year yet either, really suprised so if anyone has anything. Don't want to travel much more than an hour but open to offers! :)

I'll keep you in mind Rob. :)

I hate NYE.

I don't like any functions where people are 'forced' into having a good time.

I have 3 confirmed bookings for NYE and 2 that are waiting for me to get back to them as I am not sure if I can sort them as yet. One of them was booked after NYE last time and the other two were booked in April.

Hi Theo, We are also based in Thanet, I have for the past nine years been booked at the same venue for new years eve, It is a family friendly venue has been packed every year, however this year we have only been booked for there christmas dates because they are going to try out a singer on new years eve.
I have been told by a lot of people that local bookings seem to be coming in at the very last moment.

I was booked at Easter by the people who had me last year.

You can bet I'll also get a call from my regular Young Farmers who've realised they haven't booked anyone yet. Fortunately I pass that booking on each year which they are happy with as long as I'll do, what they call their "Big Summer BBQ Bash" which starts about 9pm and ends, well, whenever!

Well I've gone from one extreme to the other. Last year nye playing to about 50 people in a local country pub. This year DJing between sets at an Eric Clapton Concert and then bringing the new year in. :D

I hope you like Clapton thenhttp://planetsmilies.net/not-tagged-smiley-2564.gif (http://planetsmilies.net) , or you've got a good supply of Red Bull or earplugs (whichever is more appropriate).

Seriously though, well done nice gig to get. Good payer I take it?

Im working new years eve in the hotel where i am booked to do all the christmas party nights. But i still have not had any enquiries for that night from other sources.

If everyone leaves it late it could be a last minute rush to find a dj

Cheers guys. It's a Charity function but still, pay is in excess of what i would have got local on nye. Plus turn up with mixer case and mic and plug straight into Eric's P.A.

Have a disco
15-10-2007, 05:00 PM
NYE eve booking I have had for the last 3 or 4 years is thinking about having disco, but are expecting it to be cheaper than last year, claiming Millenium prices are over, and because a flipping witherspoons has opened up virtually next door he's fighting a losing battle. I quoted £300 no matter what only £30 less than year before. I had to chase them for the booking as it was? may hand it to another disco. I dont expect it to come through though so I could be free as well this NYE??? I expect to take on a last minute booking and will not go out for less than £350
