Hi all,
Not really related to DJing but a quick question.
Tonight at my local, it's the monthly Open Mic night. It's kind of open house and anyone can come along and play or do comedy or whatever. There is a backline but I have nothing to do with this night so I am not sure of the equipment or facilities. I do a lot of music on my laptop generally for my own pleasure (a kind of mix of Depeche Mode/NIN...dark but with big beats, nasty synths and samples..totally different to what I used to do years ago)...anyway, I have been asked if I would like to do 3 songs so I have been working on them and they are ready to be aired.
The question is... Do I need to take a mixer with me so that I can plug the laptop into the mixer and then something goes from the mixer and straight into the backline? I went to PC World and purchased a belkin lead that goes from the headphone socket and then into the mixer (I tried it through my soundsystem in the living room and it sounded great).
Or..do I just take the laptop and go straight from that and into the backline?
It may come in handy to know this just in case I decide to use my laptop as backup when I DJ too. I have no intention of using it for good.
Any help would be much appreciated as I have a bit of a buzz about playing the tunes out and am looking forward to it.
