Customers being let down at last minute!

Ive noticed alot this year that a great deal of people are phoning up asking if I can step in at the last minute as they "have been let down" by their DJ.

It amazes me, last weekend, got a call Friday night asking to do a wedding the next day as "we couldnt get hold of the DJ"

Then had a call this evening asking to do a 30th birthday on saturday night.

Ive had alot of bookings like this all year, maybe even double than previous years...........

Shall I expect a call sometime in the future asking if I can do a gig with 5 minutes notice?!:eek:

Anyone else had the same??

I think it's a result of going for the cheapest quote, and then finding they have taken a more lucrative gig. Many do this, I used to get people ringing me for young persons discos at short notice. What was happening was they were taking these as a banker, and if a better paying adult gig came in, dropping the kids one. Shabby, but it happens. :mad:

Last Saturdays gig the B&G paid £50 deposit and the remaining £80 on the night,whereas this Saturdays gig the girl was paying " a friend of a friend" who does disco............

He`s now, nowwhere to be found.:rolleyes: so she tells me.........

when I asked about the contract from the DJ she booked she said "urm, what contract"?

Oh yes. You would be surprised how important the price is to some people, after all, one disco is the same as another, isn't it?:D

Done nearly 12 short notice gigs this year already. This sat's is a short notice as well. As was week before. Not complaining as its making me money I need. But makes you wonder who keeps letting people down. Shorterst notice I have had this year is rang at 7:15 in the evening was on far side of town from home and gig was 25 miles away. Got to gig and had music on by 8:20 lighting etc 10 minutes later.

Last year I received a call at 6.30pm asking if I could help a hotel out. They were hosting a wedding and the dj hadn't turned up. I agreed to do it and was there by 7pm.
Firstly I got abused by some of the guests, thinking I was the original dj arriving late!
Then the best man threatened to beat me up!
But eventually, they realised I was the replacement and we ended up having a good night...lol

i keep getting last minute bookings from let down customers as well. Does anyony chare more or less for last minute bookings?

As for DJ's letting their clients down. I dont think its acceptable. If they book you for a gig and then suddenly decide you cant do it.

I think its only fair that you find them another dj that can do the job of the same quality. If it turns out in the end i cant do the gig. Which the only reasons i will get cover is if.

If im poorly and cant go out and do the gig. I have to be seriously ill before it will stop me doing a gig. (Done them with headaches full of cold stomach ache and even sickness) There are other reasons why i would get cover but not for any of them.

Last minute jobs. I will do if im not working regardless whether it was a planned night off or not. because no matter what the function is i wouldnt like it to happen to me.

I had this problem when I found i had to re-locate over to England from Northern Ireland. I had aprox 6 bookings after the time that I was leaving already booked.

I personally didn't just phone them up and say "sorry, can't do your disco anymore bye" when Ii did contact them I gave them all an alternative dj that I had spoken to and was (1) available for their date and (2) willing to take the booking at the price already agreed. Just the way I work, hopefully you'd all do the same.

You did the right thing mate. If it come to not been able to do the gig. I wouldnt ring the client first. Id get it covered before even speaking to them. Then i would appologise to the client and tell them i have already found a dj of the same quality who will do your function for you at no extra cost should they wish to take up his offer.

Have a last minute booking for a 70th this coming Saturday. The DJ that was going to do it phoned the client and left a message on their answerphone to say he had a change of plans and was going on holiday. Sent booking confirmation to client and everything in writing. Got a nice letter back with deposit cheque thanking me for my professionalism :)

I quoted for a gig for 1st September and never heard anything back but got another booking on that day anyway. Last week got a call from the person I originally quoted to (was about two months ago) asking if they could proceed with the booking. Turns out they went for the cheapest price and the DJ they had booked had said that he couldn't do it now. I did offer to help them to find someone else but they said they had another number to call but if they weren't successful, they were going to call me back. As I haven't heard, I assume they are now sorted.
