Well they couldn't get any worse. Bit of a follow on really from the threads about letting customers down. Only just found the time to write about what has happened over the last couple weeks.
Once upon a time....
It all started on saturday 14th july. Got to the venue to set up for a 40th birthday bash. Started unloading the van when the worse accident possible happened. Stepped out the back of the van and landed awkwardly on my foot. Thought i'd twisted it and tried to carry on walking. On looking down found my ankle looking in the opposite direction to the rest of me. Ambulance, paramedics on scene within 10 minutes... roadie ringing wife etc, main thing on my mind at the time was what about tonights gig. Roadie had set up but never ran anything before so started to panic but didnt want to let down the customer. Anyway got taken away with roadie reassuring me everything would be ok. Four hours later foot straightened, up to my thigh in plaster, and up on the ward still wondering if everything was ok at the party.
Following morning got a visit from the customers from the party the night before saying how well everything had gone and how sorry they were when they turned up to find out what had happened. They have since booked us again for a christmas party that hopefully i will make this time.
Even after that minor problem the show still went on. That was 2 weeks ago and have covered every gig i had booked even though i cannot set up i've got some great friends who set up and take down for me.Even up to this weekend gone had a party in a marquee friday night turned up on my crutches and customer went out of there way to make me comfortable asking why i didnt cancel they would have understood given the circumstances etc. Was a good night even playing an extra hour past the finish time.
Obviously ive still got another 6 weeks in plaster but the show does go on regardless of what happens. Ive never let a customer down and could of quite easily these last couple of weeks but i felt i could manage with the friends i had around me.
Just means ive got more time to spend at home working on the wife to get more involved now and work on other stuff.
