Awww, now I'm dissapointed!
What are those huge LED type displays they use at the back of stages at concerts and on X-Factor?
I want a smaller one of them!

Probably the classic xtc lighting effect. I own 4 of there new incantation the diamond and they are great effects really brighten up the room and lamps are cheap and long lasting (most of the time).
Best effeect I have owned was probably the ssc-2 scanner. Very bright very good programs onboard dmx digtal controller, bulb timer the works. Shame it goes through bulbs so much as they were a great light. Im told they do a discharge version of it but have never found it myself.

1. Probrably the brightest compact LED unit you will find.
2. IP rated for outdoor use
3. Fantastic build quality

I have changed all my lighting to Martin in the last 6 months and I have to say it's not cheap, total outlay of about £2400! http://planetsmilies.net/shocked-smiley-9456.gif
My lighting is now..
4 x SCX 500's
2 x CX4's
1 x EFX 500
1 Freekie controller.
But hey it's great, so vibrant and with the controller I have individual control over each fixture.

Nah got rid of them as the bulbs were to expensive to keep replacing, bought my 4 dynamos instead. May look at getting them again when the discharge version becomes available. Optics were amazing.

The Golden Scan can be found here http://www.claypaky.it/english/products/cat1_gshpe.htm
The other two are quite old effects, so I'm not sure if they'll be any links for them.

I thought it looked quite cool until I looked closer and found the individual panels were gaffa taped together.
Did you not think it was just a bit overly bright?

2k worth of screens gaffa taped together ! wonder why they dont just make em that size to begin with, not much point in small panels

Not really. It looked like a smaller version of what I've seen on TV and at concerts. I reckon if you could program graphics and things, then it would look good in a club or somewhere similar and therefore it would need to be fairly bright.

a rolling box harvester is a big oblong box with par 4,6 or 8 36 pinspots on each of the sides of the box at the end of the box there is a motor that makes the box spin the box hangs down from another motor that spins so the unit spins on two axis
the cosmos ball is similar to the harvester but is the shape of a ball

It seemed to vary in brightness throughout the day, maybe there was some sort of dimmer?????

Ahh did it? I just remember seeing a masive glow at that end of the hall everytime I looked down there, looked like some kind of backward nuclear bomb going off..

Wonderful with haze or a puff of smoke.
No good at all in clear air unless you like polka-dots zipping across the walls, floor & ceiling. Which has its place at some gigs.
Luckily about 90% of my venues allow haze.

In my opinon the most awsome peice of kit i have ever seen and i dont even know what its called ,is a moving head with a media server on board and a sony night camera. A brief description you can input any media type into it a it will project that information ie video ,photos.graphics anything just like a normal moving head all so with the camera you can sweep the audience and project what the camera has seen on the next sweep i think it may be called DH2 OR DLA2 more down to earth you cannot beat a good laser show we used to have a amazing one in the opera house in Bournemouth for our Sliny nights

Ahh yes, the big HMI in the sky, as it's known as. An HMI being a large fixture used in television, the lamp, suprisingly, being an HMI.

LOVE harvesters and cosmos balls! I guess we all remember them on Top Of The Pops?
I actually saw the cosmos ball from TOTP 'in the flesh' as it were once, sat at the back of a warehouse belonging to Playlight Hire in Manchester.
I saw it sat there and commented to the Playlight guy, and he said "It's the one from TOTP", always regreted not making them an offer for it - would have made one hell of a souvenier for the living room:D

I used to work for a company that did equipment hire as well as discos. They had 2 Galaxy Balls the flightcase of which, including the wheels, came up to my chin. Looked fantastic with a bit of smoke.
