Well I've just had a look in my Oxford dictionary and nothing is there before A, and that is obviously not a correct listing.

Also just had a quick look in a couple of encyclopedias and found the same thing. Everything begins with A.

Yes and no...

No-one would say the phonebook or Yellow pages aren't "alphabetical" listings, yet they list things like 3M before the 'A's. But as you're being pedantic then alphanumeric listing is probably more correct, allowing for (obviously) letters of the alphabet, and numbers.

So it's not just a computer thing at all. Maybe both are right...I did say "pushing it" :)
