As you're all aware I'm planning on moving to the Bath-area of Somerset in early April, next year. Biggest hurdle being, of course, money. The family trust, of which my wife is the sole beneficiary at this time, will be securing a mortgage over our house and a number of rental properties so that we can buy in the UK, with the mortgage being paid by the rents over here. So the big one, housing, is pretty much sorted.
Wifey just started on a short term contract with one of New Zealand's biggest law firms tidying up their immigration department so she's now on the equivalent of approximately £45,000 before tax which will help a lot. It was supposed to be part-time after the first three weeks but it's looking like it will be full time until even as late as Christmas! But part-time (15 hours) at £25/hour is still pretty good, ESPECIALLY when she's till working for her old firm on £12,500! I love my wife :D
The great thing is that it's really bolstered her confidence - not only getting the job but reporting straight to the head of department, one below the CEO, who she also speaks directly to. So she's now quite keen on the idea of doing legal temp work in the UK, and fortunately the friend who got her this job (he works for a legal placement agency) has arrangements or branches (not sure which) in the UK... hurrah!
As for me, I don't expect to land on my feet, a gig a week from the outset (though that is, of course, my aim), but I just got an email from a long-time contact of mine in Bristol who just so happens to own a few pubs suggesting that beyond the fill-in work he was originally able to promise me he now has the possibility of a DJ/promoter role for when I land. How good is that?
The upshot is: any doubts about whether or not we really would do it (not that there were any, really) are gone. All systems go, as it were.
So, next thing...
I know it's a while away, yet, but if anyone will have any non-DJ stuff such as furniture and appliances that they will be dumping/selling between now and April next year, if you can easily hold off until then, you may well have a willing buyer :D
I'd say the same for DJ kit, but take it as read that I'll be scouring DJBids ;)
