laptop noise not hum

Hi i've posted on this subject and as a result bought and fitted a ground loop isolator its not a buz sound it is, if you understand a programming sound a morse code set of sounds about 5 or 6 taps long reacuring about every 15 seconds you can only hear it when their is nothing playing
does this make any sense

ive just typed it and it only just makes sense to me

THe GLI should fix that noise.

When people talk about a 'buzz' that's what they normally mean. For want of a better description, all the mains is fighting against each other and the GLI shoude suck it all up.

What have you got the GLI plugged into? Do you have an external soundcard?

That's probably what it is then - the HDD whirring round and processing. I reckon you're going to need either an external sound card or a DI box.

I get the same thing high pitched noise that sounds like hard drive fans (although they have none fitted), have ground loop isolators fitted as well and cant seem to cure it. It only happens at some venues though I have noticed. This weekend I'm going to try better quality USB cables from to see if it changes anything.

Do you use wireless mics? The only time I get any noise from the laptop is when I use them.

That to me sounds like it may be an issue with the cleanliness of the power supply in some venues - if you plug your lap-top into a power-cleanser/surge-protector the power will be a consistent sine-wave and your hard-drive, motherboard and internal power-supply won't have to work as hard - you will get less noise (I suspect, based on what you've said), you will get better performance from your lap-top, AND it won't get as warm as quickly.

I have one myself, mainly for my DBX and player/mixer, but I noticed all of those outcomes (bar the buzzing, as I don't use the lappy for audio) when I also plugged the lap-top into the cleanser.

yes i use wireless mics and to throw a spanner into the works i also use a power-cleanser/surge-protector but the noise is still there ive even tried plugin in to a complete seperate plug socket on another wall it still makes the noise when running on battery
