If they win, I wonder where their child's christian name would come in an alphabetical listing? :D

I think parent's who give their baby a silly name are irresponsible.

They probably don't think about the stick their kid will have to take when they start going to school.

Well, I can go one better...

I can't find the article, but there was a case of a couple in one of the Scandinavian countries who were jailed for failing to name their chlid by the time it was 5. Their final attempt at a legal name was some alpha-numeric string that was a designation of some distant quasar or something.

My wife's mother was a teacher, she taught twins Fish and Chips (seriously) and VI, pronounced 'six'!

Like I said, completely irresponsible.

I certainly wouldn't give MY kid a silly name that was likely to cause them to get picked on at school!

Why ask for trouble unnecessarily?

If they were so intent on calling hin 4Real why don't they just call him Fourreal? I'm sure the authorities couldn't object, as it's not strictly numeric.

Don't you just know he's gonna grow up to be a rapper though

My claim to lame fame is that my son is Joshua and my daughter is Rebekkah - Josh is frequently called Joshi-Poshi, or just Posh, and she's frequently called Bekkah or Bex, so yes, we call 'em Posh 'n' Bex.

I heard this story on the radio a couple of months ago, and they interviewed the father.. who sounded a pretty intelligent guy, just with wacky ideas!

I think they'll be allsorts of strange names before long.. so don't think it will cause too many problems in schools... new names are introuduced all the time, its just the way language goes..

plus at the end of the day girls names were always things like grace, constance, patricia etc and guys were wilfred, arthur , fredrick etc but now we have marc, colin, garry, stacey, kylie, tegan etc so when outr grandparents were around and started seeing these "Silly" sounding names that were not the norm at that time then were they thinking the same as we do now?

I dunno, Afro-American names, especially the Creole ones, still don't have traction outside of that socio-economic group - though I'm sure there are a handful of Beyoncés being born about now.

Have you noticed how ridiculous names seem to be the preserve of the very rich and the very poor (Frogmella, anyone?), but not so much in between? Sorry, silly names also happen in Sci-Fi/Fantasy, i.e. Fflewddur Fflam.
