i have chosen dont know as its hard to say wether or not i regret it, in respect to being able to get up when i want, work as hard or as slack during the day when i want then no....

if its regarding doing a job i really really love then no

if its regarding money - then maybe

I have voted with a YES, but I'm not DJ'ing yet. Should be starting before the end of this month. I've been a self employed driving instructor for 5 years, and I was a self-employed artexing and coving contractor for 3 years before that. Based on 8 years of experience, I wouldn't swap my life for that of an employee. It's not always about the money, it's about being able to see my kids in the school plays, sports days, parents evenings, having a day off when my wife is having a bad day and needs taking out for lunch. And, in case anyone was wondering about another subject, I went bankrupt in 1991.
It isn't the end of the world! You aren't beaten until you stop trying!;)

Shouldn't you have voted NO then? Or is the bankruptcy the thing that made you vote yes, you regret it.

Ooops! I DID vote NO, as the 0% on the poll shows, but I was talking to someone whilst typing, and typed Yes by mistake. Guess that makes me a Yes man.:D

Sure sometimes the money's a bit tight but as far as lifestyle goes, I wouldn't change it for the world.

Yeah i would agree with that, i love the lifestyle but sometimes wonder why I cant seem to make enough money at it.

you will not find many dj in this country that are full time there are about 95/96% that have another job you cannot realy on discos alone

But if you are also self employed in the day job, it can sometimes be easier to fit the D work in.

I don't have another income....just rely on the DJing, but I also make up the money doing kids parties....that way at the weekend i can often fit in a kids party in the daytime and a gig in the evening. And as for lifestyle.....I changed it so i could manage....who needs a big house and a mortgage......still managed to hold onto my two sports cars and my van though!

Well i've come straight from attempting University, to relying on the DJ-ing alone, and don't regret it at all. I'm certainley doing better than alot of my friends who went straight into work after GCSEs/A-Levels.

Not sure how the future will work out though, still living at home but could probably afford to move out if I did another job for a couple of days a week, or got a few midweek gigs a month.

Like me then. I love the DJ'ing but i like to have a full time job as well to fall back on. I couldnt generate enough work round my area to go full time anyway if i wanted to.

I haven't voted on this....YET....
Can't wait till i've built up enough custom to ditch the 9 to 5...
I'll even take on a part time job to level the money....if that becomes an issue.
So i'll vote NO when the times right....:)

I have just started out in the DJ business (now have 2 gigs under my belt). However, I was a singer for around 10-12 years and always had a 8-5 day job. Basically the Day job pays the bills and the evening work is my "fun" money.

It can be extremely tiring when there's s lot of evening work, i.e. getting home at 2am and up for work at 6:30am. Believe me, you can't keep that up for too long.

I would like to be able to earn enough to quit the day job, but the security of a monthly wage is too great to give up. Plus I get sick pay and 5 weeks paid holidays a year... That's not a bad deal really.

Self employed all the way!

Its hard work and long hours (registered childminder during the day, balloon decorating or discos every weekend and consultations in the evenings) but I really can't stand working for anybody!

I have had jobs where I lasted one day. The managers all seem to think they are god and the workers are something they stepped in :eek:

I'm not sure of the legal side of things, but have you ever considered offering child-minding services at weddings? I see lots of posts on the wedding forums about whether or not to invite kids, and if so how to manage them, so I imagine there'd be quite a market for it.

Yeah, and how many of those who voted are just self employed and don't reply on another income? That would give the true result if people didn't have another job/income etc.

Not necessarily, Danno.

People might have gone self employed, but aren't doing as well as they hoped, so they regret the decision...but they could have decided to stick at it for a few months in the hope that things will improve.

Well, I'm not sure that there are 16 full time DJs on here, hence my point. I'll have a look to see who voted.
