Power packs

Just had a problem with the power supply to my JTS radio Mike unit, RICE PLEASE NOTE.

The thin wire that comes out of the transformer has started to fail due to being packed away ( very carefully I might add ) umpteen times and where it exits the pack the wire has broken and only gives intermittent current.

Easily solved by buying a Regulated Power supply---however for vital items like USB readers, in my case Cortex, seems like a good idea to have a spare handy just in case AT ANY TIME.

This is the first time I have had this type of failure--a lot of modern equipment seems to have this type of supply-- not as reliable as the old kettle leads--although I guess internally theres less chance of breakdown?

I have seen a very good maplin transformer that can do up to 5 amps with various voltages. I was thinking of getting one as a backup for my cortex and numark. Very handy as it would power most of my equipment that uses external transformers.

Nah they are not to bad in general. Just some of their won brand stuff is a bit cheaply made , but as they sell it cheap as well I guess it evens out.

You're right. My PAT tester almost wouldn't test it this year. I take the wired PG58 out with me now just in case.

BTW, the PG58 was awsome at the comedy night! Thanks for the recomendation.
