Bounciest floor I've ever know!

Last Saturday I was doing a wedding in an upstairs suite at a nice hotel.

It wasn't until they started dancing that I noticed it was possibly the bounciest floor I've ever had.

My gear was seriously rocking, and the mic was rolling about all over the place on my lighting controller...and would have been on the floor within 2 seconds if it hadn't been for my request pad stopping it.

The antishock on my CD players somehow coped with the situation, apart from one occasion where the CD got stuck & the same few seconds kept repeating (just like the old days of vinyl when the needle got stuck)...which is something I've never experienced with CDs before - weird!

Has anyone else had problems with a seriously bouncy floor?

Only when my kids play on our 'Bouncy Castle'......:p :p :p :D :D :D

I've had no problems so far.....dread to think what to do if it did happen.
Been close when I did my first 18th - people speaking on the mic right next to the goal post and bouncing around......goal post was rocking like anything....lol.

At one of our resident hotels, they recently had a refurd to include a tiled floor, but it seems they fitted the tiles onto the old floor instead of solid concrete.

With a few dancers, the truss tends to rock slightly. During load in / out, pushing cases on wheels through the room shakes glasses on the tables :(

I've been to a couple of venues with the old bouncy floor, I had one lad who was about 16 kept sitting on the window seal of the room just so he could jump down and make the CD's jump on purpose the little ...:Censored:
Anyway since I 've gone over to the old laptop dj'ing my music never jumps, let em try it now. :boxer2:

Yeah, there's one venue that I used to do regularly where the floor would bow by as much as half an inch under my gear, even though I was set up next to the wall.

Swindon Town Football Club has two function rooms,

The groundfloor is fine, but the room in the executive lounge has a massive laminate dancefloor - laid by some cowboys..

Not only does it bounce, but its uneven, and has more ripples in it than I dont know what.....never had a CD skip, but Ive had kit move and allsorts..!!

hopefully though, it`ll be ripped up and replaced when swindon get promoted this season....:rolleyes:

ouch. sorry to hear. neva had this problem myself but if i was me i would of said somthing. :S

To be honest, there wasn't really much I could have said...

...I dont think "please stop dancing" or "please dance more gently" would have gone down too well!

It wasn't really a problem, as all the CDs played (with one exception), and although my gear was rocking, it all stayed intact...so I got away with it!

just as long your gear was ok and cd's wernt affected. Thats why i went from cd's to a laptop, so there is no skip. Just to ad my name it Tom. Unknown Enemy is my myspace name. Hard to explain but anyway, im tom. lol.

A couple of years ago I did a christmas party for a wine importer in Gerrard Street *Chinatown). We were on the second floor of a chinese restuarant, no lift no vehicle access to road etc. We took an extra pair of hands (son-in-law) to help out. Having set up we disappeared while they had a meal and arrived back to find they were still eating .... while doing The Grand Old Duke Of York with actions around the tables. Lively crowd. They asked for some background music (C&W style) and began yeh-haing along, then spotted Saturday Night fever cd. Play that please.

First track staying Alive. All leap on tables to dance. Waiters go potty, get them down and move food to buffet tables. Dining tables turn out to be very small tables with large boards to seat 12 on the top. :omg:

Get them dancing and we notice floor is bouncing and decks are "walking" to centre of room. Roadie and Carol keep pulling them back. Floor is bouncing several inches at this point.

Maybe I had a brain storm, but I played Madness, floor bouncing even more. It was probably not the wisest decision to follow it with Bad Manners Can-Can. :daft:

Manager runs in, "stop the music, the ceiling has collapsed on the diners downstairs"

We spent the rest of the evening getting them to dance around the edge, on chairs and sitting down.

And we still went on until 3am.

Met the owner later. Very nice lady. She asked manager if he would have us back. He replied "Any time. But not upstairs again!"
