Sound Check

After you have setup all you equipment it time to check that everything is working propelly. What song do you play. I play a song called Surrender by Billy talent. The kick drums and bass guiter has a good kick and punch for the bass and the trebel from the vocals and electric guitar (no distortion). What songs do you sound check with???

I use Ben Liebrand - Eve of the War, as it's also a great way of checking out the light show as well as your levels. Good full range of sound, low bass, high trebles, spoken word, and a funky bass line that makes the lights dance :-)

You should try it. Fill your room with smoke (if your allowed), turn all of your lights on and turn it up loud. Then watch your guest's jaws drop as they start to arrive, or are setting up the food.

cool. might give that a go. i like to test the whole music spectrum. from as low as 5 hz right up to 22,000hz. plus i was hoping to get small haze machine, not smoke. i think it looks better aswell :o

You can't even hear that, let alone reproduce it on a mobile disco sound system!

You definitely can't hear it, and most subs don't go below 20Hz as that is generally considered to be the lowest audible sound, which is not to say you couldn't feel it (brown note, anyone?). Most full-range speakers seem to stop somewhere between 30 & 80Hz.

Crystal-clear drums set dead centre with a steady rhythm perfect for the reverb acoustics of pretty much every venue I tend to play; electric, bass and electro-acoustic guitars and the vocal range so typically high-low-high-low and all over the place.

For me, I've tried all sorts of music over the years... once this track came along on CD that was it for me. If I can tweak the sound config to make this track sound perfect, then pretty much anything else I pump out later sounds great too.

get an eq. i only have one because i used to do live sound and i needed to get a flat sound. just like in the studio.

Made famous by it's use in the film excalibur and at the beginning of the X-Factor.

It certainly show's the Mackies off to their best effect!!!

i have found a new song which i think will be my new test subject. my girlfriends cousin is a professional singer and is currently recording in germany. he regulary get free cd's from the record company and he gave me one the other day. yes its german but there was one song that captured me. the song is called Zerrissen by juli. the bass guitar is trully somthing. its simple but fits in so well and would give any subwoofer a good test. i have professional monitor speaker as i have a mini studio and the bass was alive and kicking. so i decided to get my pa speakers out and tryed it again. wow. i have never heard my speakers play like this before. i ajusted my eq and now the sounding better than ever. this is now the song for me.

Rob's busy, so I'm posting this.

Best sound check had to be when we were doing the London marathon last year.

Rob decided to play Resurrection Shuffle ..... at 3000 watts at 7-30 am.
