View Full Version : What Speakers and AMP

Sorry guys i know you get this all the time but i really need help. I HAVE to buy new speakers and an AMP but do not have a clue what to buy. I have checked previous threads but im not too clued up on all the technical information. I usually play to about 200+ people. I have a budget of about 500 quid for the speakers and AMP hopefully that can get me something good??

Please help me!!:confused: :confused:

I have the amp & the smaller of the 2 sets of speakers (you may need a sub for bigger gigs). The larger speakers would comfortably cover 200, but they are about 4' tall & can't be put on stands.

So the smaller speakers would comfortably handle 200 people by the sounds of it. If i had bigger gigs then i could get a sub and by the spec of the Amp it would cover it. Do you use a sub all the time if so what one??

I've only used subs (Deltec, can't remember the model) for 200+ & open air gigs. The CD158s on their own comfortably handle up to 200 (better 150 & under)(but, remember it doesn't have to be as loud at the bar as it does on the dancefloor)

I think i might purchase the CD158 speakers they look great value for money and look like they will cater for my needs. Do you have any different AMPS that you reccomend maybe slightly cheaper??

Try Thomann they have some own brand amps that are pretty cheap.

Behringer amps - they are reasonably priced and fairly robust.

They were what I linked to in my first post, there are a few of us that use them &/or the CD158 on here. Not as many as use Mackie, but you would have dificulty getting Mackies within your budget.

Im such an indecisive person!!! Steve have you got a reccomendation on AMPs. Ive researched the web and im gonna buy the speakers. i need a quality AMP for them but only have about 200 quid to spend any suggestions or is it worth spending extra for the yamaha especially if i want to add subs??

Personally no, I have the second of the speakers suggeted by Steve. Truly excellent, and these shown are the upgraded ones. No subs needed, awesome bass. If you can't get them high( stage etc) then treble can suffer.

Give Class-D a call, they will have cheaper amps to suit any of these speakers, and you can get a package from them. Other amps can be got cheaper elsewhere, but I could not personally recommend any. Steve is recommending a top quality amp, quite rightly. I have a C-Mark, which is great, but there are problems with a batch , so be careful. Hope this helps.

Have a look at the Behringer range - they are in your budget.

Yeah thanks. How do you cope with getting them high then?? Do you still rate the CD 158-1 though??

Ring Class-D, and you can get amp, subs, and tops for £500.
£650 gets amp, subs, two pairs of tops, and a 1.5Kw system! Give them a call, tell them your requirements, and budget. They will get you something suitable.

If you're buying the CD 158-1s the price on the web page is £135 per pair, leaving £365 for amps. OK so it's £20 over budget, but try Googleing them you may find cheaper. (I only linked to that page because I got mine from DV)

Or as Excaliber says give Class D a ring & see what they can sort out.

Went to see them....they do some really good deals!!
If your not fussy over garantee....ask what else he has!!

Never heard them in action, but I've heard very good things about them
