Has anyone ever purchased the green lazer lights from ebay the ones made in china? if so what are they like?

Buy direct from uk, a little more but you get some kind of guarantee with it

I dont buy any thing anymore from outside the UK. Had to much hassle in the past with ebay. If i cant get it in the UK i dont bother.

Those lasers look good. Might be worth asking you local DJ shop if they can order something in like that for you from a supplier, at least then you get a 12 month guarantee from the shop.

Cheers for the advice. Mind you it does look like a great double lazer and the price is **** good. Just sent the seller a couple of questions about it, waiting on his reply.

Ive got the red/green version of that laser. Great laser with smoke/haze pants without. Only sound to light no dmx but then again the sound to light is good enough. Patterns are pretty good

Red-eye reduction uses a pre-flash to contract the subject's iris, so wouldn't make any difference to your photo ;)

I own four green lasers and all purchased in the UK - but his a true story.

My mate Simon wanted to buy some rather than hire mine.

so Si, bought two of ebay from a seller in china for £300, and after it arrived DHL sent him an invoice a week later for customs fees - which amounted to nearly.....(wait for it!).....

£300...

To make things worse, 2 months later - the units diod failed and nobody in the UK stocked the parts.

and guess what...........

The seller (although helpful) asked for the units to be returned at my mates expense for repair....

Stupidly he sent them back (I think it cost around £40 via airmail) and the seller then claimed it never arrived despite sending the tracking info.........

The seller then got booted off ebay.........

THEN........

My mate tried to do a item not recieved through paypal but the dispute ended as "there were insufficiant funds" in the sellers account to get the money back............

One other thing is that alot of these units both UK / Overseas are illegal and I have to get a certificate and health and safety / ris assesments done to be able to use them in a public place.

Its all part of my 60 page document!

Just an added thought. These are simply sound to light units. I have a similar Prolite single green version. absolutely great in smoke, but useless without. I did have the chance to play with a mates slightly more expensive unit, which is DMX, but also included animated patterns - dancing man and the like. Looked really good projected on a wall or the floor without any smoke at all.

Might be worth considering how many venues will allow smoke!

I`m using my DMX Lasers next friday so will snap a few pics and post em here.

Regardless of what people say, lasers ALWAYS look a million times better with some haze or smoke.

Oh, and avoid lasers crabs.............waste IMHO!

There's a recent video of my tri-colour one in the gallery section taken a few weeks back. The model is very similar if not the same as the Chinese ones, but from a UK supplier, so its got a full UK warranty.

Got a twin laser and don't use it.....cus it needs so much smoke/haze to look effective and most of the hotels i do round here request no smoke

Hi all, we have recently bought a dual red & green laser from Ebay and it was sent from China.
Had no problems with delivery or anything like that, and your all right it looks the aboslute nuts with smoke machine doing tunnles and other shapes.

One thing i would like to know is what software is available to run lasers via DMX from laptop? And can i get software and controller from a retailer anywhere?

Hi Guys, not been around lately but checks this out......From THIS weekend.

Thought this may be of interest,

Did a gig saturday, for a large hotel in wiltshire. (part of a worldwide chain)..Big Party, client requests dance music / old school & R&B

I`m doing my bit during the disco at the start of the night when a chap walks up with a blackfolder....me thinks this is odd....

Well, to cut to the chase, he was from the HSE doing checks and right there and there, asks to see all my documentation for my business. (couldnt have chosen a worse time)


I crap myself.............................:eek:

Got a new van last week and still hadnt emptied the old one so ALL my paperwork in on the old wagon and not with me......So` call the missus who just up the road and ask here to bring everything down.

Whilst this is going on, he has a right going over of my gear, I think he was being nosey more than anything, but seems happy with everything including checking safety chains for the lights that are hung off the tri-lite, ....until he clocks my lasers and strobes...

He checks the strobes for the flicker rate, and nods...then checks my strobe tubes, and thats fine.........

Now, 2 of my lasers went out to a mate on Friday & Saturday so I`m using 2 prolight 120mw ones instead............

Now heres my panic.

I have a mountain of paperwork for my stealth system but not the prolight ones,

Missus turns up and I explain to "bob" that I`m doing a disco and my other half will speak with you.

Thirty minutes later, he`s gone through my entire Health & safety documents, risk assesments etc: and all seems O.K., and I`m still playing dance stuff etc:

The point of the "visit" was just to make sure everything was in order and was done at random. But, he went on to explain the importance of having the correct H&S paperwork for the lasers and that if I hadnt, they would request that they are removed from the disco until the correct health and safety paperwork was in place. In the extreme, they would confiscate the items or (check this)....STOP the disco..!!!!

I paid TAO safety £140 to do the paperwork, and gladly was worth it, but in all my time of doing discos, Ive never had this happen (apart from some suit come down from PRS).....

The health & safety documents and risk assessments were so detailed that they covered most lasers but I`d hate to think what he would have done had I not had all this............

Has anyone else had this happen? In hindsight I can see what they are trying to do, but the timing was terrible.

Interesting. I remember back in the early 90's when I was involved with a couple of guys using argon lasers, one was 150mw and the other 2w, we often had H&S inspections.
Due to the availabilty of lasers these days, people just don't appreciate how potentially dangerous they really are. Any idiot can buy one that could blind someone in an instant. And many of the cheap ones have little or no safety features.
Back when we were using Argon, H&S insited (in fact still do) that there is a way of mechanically blocking the beam in the event of controller failure - i.e. raw beam hitting the audience. You don't see anything like that on cheap lasers.
Pre risk asessment days, you had to have a form (PM19?) that detailed the owner, operator the spec of the laser and what safety precautions you had in place, it was often thought (wrongly) as a license.
Any operator had to have some basic training in operation and safe use of lasers. i was trained by the owner who was trained by the supplier, so we were covered.
It is reassuring to see that some people are taking them seriously, such as Skins, and the H&S are inspecting.
He wouldn't have put the gig in jeopardy unless he felt there was a serious H&S risk, he would not have made you stop the gig to go get paperwork, he would have made alternative arrangements if he felt everything else was in order on the night.
Skins your attitude is a great example of professionalism and treating other professionals in the same way and working with them. Good on ya!!
