:confused: Hi guys i use 2 datamoons which i bought as a kit brand new.They are the latest model built in china i believe.I would not say that they are the brightest lights.My question to you all is this.
What do you have your dip switches set at?
How do i get the best lightshow out of them?
I use the hand held controller that was supplied with the kit.I also link them up via the 5 pin dmx lead.
What is your best advice to get the very best lightshow out of them?

Change the bulbs for philips or osram they come supplied with cheap chinese bulbs which are pants. Datamoons are very bright lights

No.

The only difference I've noticed is that they don't last as long, but that's a small price to pay when a couple of lamps for my mushroom light cost me £5.

2 of the same lamps (but branded versions) in my local disco shop are £26, which is more than 5 times the price...but they certainly don't last 5 times longer than the unbranded ones!

Therefore, the unbranded ones work out cheaper overall.

Yes, the better quality lamps are definitely brighter. Tried a batch of cheap lamps a couple of years back that were pretty much useless. As has already been mentioned, the Datamoon is one of the brightest effects.

With all due respect, Darren, my larger disco (which most people book) uses 4 effects, not 2.

I've noticed no difference in the brightness of lamps which don't have something like "Osram" printed on them.

Of course the branded lamps last a lot longer, but in my experience certainly not 5 times longer...even though they cost 5 times more.

Therefore, for me, the cheaper unbranded lamps offer much better value for money...which is why it makes sense for me to use them.

I always carry spare lamps, so if one blows during a gig, it's no trouble changing it.

So here's the millon dollar question, which branded lamp is the best buy?

Tell you what, I have three Datamoons (which to be honest are very very bright on the long life cheapy unbranded ebay lamps), so I'll do a side by side comparison.

I would say my I-Show's look a little pants and I had wondered if that was a lamp problem

I don't think it's possible to answer that question, although you can't go far wrong with any of the common makes like Philips or Osram.

Have you tried a bit of windowlean on the lense and reflector?

I use the GE lamps, for both the discharge and dicroic types.

I use osram lamps. Found a supplier on ebay that does 5 250w 24v lamps for £10. I think thats good value. I always carry one spare bulb for every didfferent type of fitting although the 25w coloured bulbs for the screens are becoming harder to source.

Well guys the what bulbs are best debate goes on.I have to say that after changing bulbs in my datamoons i was amazed at the difference in brightness so in my oppinion the more expensive bulbs(phillips/osram) are the best.

Now then.....

One of my Datamoons started running with the gobo wheel sort of stuck inbetween two gobo's. What's happened and how do I put it right?

By the way, the gobo's changed OK, but just got "split" patterns all night

Open it up and check whether the transformer (the big round doughnut) has come loose on its mounting. If so, recenter it and tighten with a ?10mm? hex spanner.

Happens to mine on occasion.
