I've just been out on a venue visit for a job booked today (Christmas office party) The area that they have set aside for DJs is 6' by 4' with a partition on one side & an archway through to the other half or the restaurant on the other. Apparently other DJs set up there with no problems, makes you wonder what kit they use.

Had something similar done to me kast year was doing an awards predentation and was told to be there 2 hours before to set up.

When i got there the AV guys had left me a 4' square to set up in and that didnt include a table.

So wedged in minimum kit in the square positioned the speakers in discreet locations either side of the stage and managed to fill the room with sound and light much to the amazement of the AV guys :D

I'm just glad I visited the venue first & didn't just send one of our guys down there on the night (8' minimum width) or go there with my usual stand & speakers(10')

I've had one of my guys asked to set-up in the wings, off-stage, and play to a crowd he couldn't actually see without leaving his gear :eek:

I stipulate that I must be able to set-up close to the dance floor, with preferably 2m deep x 3m wide x 2m high space available or 2mx2mx2m with two 1mx1m sections of clear floor, away from foot traffic, nearby. I also suggest that if the stage is to be more than a six inch riser that access to and from the dancefloor should be easy (stairs in plain sight).

We give minimum space needed too, but it sometimes gets lost intranslation between the client & the venue.

meaning no-one ever reads the t&c's unless there's an issue. My usual hang up is "allow at least an hour for us to pack down" it says in our terms, then staff get a bit shirty when they're all tapping their feet 20mins after the end waiting for me to go.

i was going to say. dont the clients read your terms and conditions with what you need as a minimum to setup. but then if they said we have only got this space for you to setup in then ok.
