Just two questions

1. Has anybody had a hoax call regarding a gig???

2. Has anyony been threatened on the phone (about or for a gig) or while at a gig and how did you over come this??


This has never happened to me at the moment but i want to know how i can avoid this as im probelly likly to get myself in a fight and it could all go down hill. :(. I wouldnt hurt a fly but if people push me to much then i just snap. Is there anything i can do about this??? I guess thats 3 questions then. lol

Good advice. I know the temptation is there to give as good as youve got back if someone starts causing trouble but that just esculates the problem. If you can make them look stupid without really doing anything then battle won. Had a guy at a do a while ago that just wouldnt get off my back and was getting quiet violent so i just stopped the music so everyone looked, and i announced on the mic that i cant continue because this gentleman has issues with the way i run my disco. A member of his family soon got him away so i could continue and he soon left the venue :) Its amazing what achohol can do to some people :eek: All because i wouldnt play an obscure elvis track while the dance floor was nearly full and they just wanted to party.

lol. so bassically just turn the mixer slider right down and he will still be shouting and look such a silly person (no rude words now). lol. that would be good for me as i dont have to talk.

He wasnt shouting, just getting nasty with comments like "Just wait till you get outside". I was just getting annoyed because i couldnt concentrate on what i was supposed to be doing. I think i stunned him by cutting the music and letting everyone know what a nusience he was being :D

ahh ok. :p. as im quite young still i just want to be prepared. i dont fancy having slashed tires or anything. i want to keep everyone happy but i also dont want annoy people just because i wont play there song. other people might not want it, just as my signiture below says. :p

i mean someone asking for a disco but asking for the most expensive setup and givein a fake address or something to try to make you go and turn up. but then i guess this is where the deposit comes into it and fully paid before you leave the house???

We get paid in advance & take a deposit before taking the booking. If somebody wants to pay us £50 for a nonexistent function they can as far as I'm concerned

I've never had that, but it couldn't happen with me...as I take a £50 deposit, partly to stop things like that happening.

I think I'm starting to get the hang of this sarcasm thing :D :D Didn't realise it was a prerequisite of joining this site lol.

Seriously though, although it's always good to know what other people would do in a given situation I think worrying about hoax calls at this early stage your career is being a bit paranoid .

One other thing that some DJ's do, especially for a venue they are unfamilier with, is to visit the venue in question before the gig. Obviously if the gig in question doesn't exist then the venue owner/manager will be able to tell you. Having said that I favour the deposit idea.
