Unexpected evening

It was my turn at the pub residency tonight & I wasn't expecting much, Barnet is usually a ghost town on bank holiday weekends.

Turned up & it was pretty much as I'd expected, about 10 people in the pub & about the same in the garden. About an hour in (about 10:30) the place just filled up & kept on filling!

A great night was had, played loads of requests & no cheese (except the ketchup song & don't stop moving, for a birthday girl) Soul, Funk, Disco, Reggae, Ska, Rock, Rock 'n' Roll, Indie, 60s Garage, you name it I played it (even some R&B). Not many dancers, but I don't think I've ever had as many people thank me at the end of the night when playing there.

Virtually every other pub in Barnet was dead by all accounts.

I hope the rest of the weekend goes as well.

Sounds good, I know how hard it can be in a pub gig, in terms of getting people to dance.

That varies week to week someweeks you can play whatever you feel like & have dancers all night, others you'll be inundated with requests & nobody dances.

I was just surprised how the whole night turned out for the Friday of abank holiday weekend.

I find that people don't really dance in pubs anyway. I think they appreciate hearing what they want to hear without going to the jukebox and parting with cash. I did my regular pub gig last night and it was the same thing. When I got there it was pretty quiet and then it filled up around 9.30 ish. I was doing a Reading Festival special night covering all of the bands that are playing this year and over the past few years. I printed out the list from this years lineup and it went down really well, better than I expected.

I'm back tonight doing a kind of chill out / Ibiza type one as they have turned the beer garden into a beach (no water obviously!) and there's a BBQ too. Should be good.

It can be hard not to get downhearted when noone is dancing but this just proves that they don't have to to enjoy the night. If you looked around I'm sure you would have seen some people tapping their feet or fingers etc.

Got a yacht club 'do' tonight, right in the middle of where they're setting up for the White Air festival so expecting lots of gatecrashers.

60's/70's/80's request night tonight so should be good.

I did the same place last night as I did on friday and it was dead inside. Everyone was outside so I packed the stuff down and DJ'd outside instead. It was the originally plan but the boss said that it might get cold. It ended up being a good night.

Tonight I am also doing a 60's/70's/80's request night. It's the evening part of an all day fun day for the family so should be good.
