Right. I have a labret stud at the moment and it looks ok. Never had a problem with doing gigs. Now i want to get somthing called flesh tunnels. Basically is making a normal ear piecing much bigger. Below is a picture

Would this affect my gigs??? i dont want people to think im some satan kid but i am a nice person to talk to. would this put people off???

and in the picture, dont worry about the rod. just look at the ear itself. plus i think this is in the right section. if not can some one please move it.

judge a book springs to mind........if you intend doing young persons discos and clubs....I can't see a problem. But in my opinion your appearance matters a lot for jobs such as weddings and older folks parties and corporate events.

ok then. ill give it a miss. saves money anyway. lol. as i said i have a stud in my bottom lip and a mohawk. ill leave it at that. should be ok. i want to try and offer my services to everyone.

This is getting more and more common, and I find it tends to be amongst those "alternative" people, although not exclusively.

I agree with Sandy....it would probably effect your bookings. Not so much on those ringing out of the blue, but recomendations from prior gigs/people asking for cards, yes. It is stereotypical I know, but that would probably be the case.

Fully in agreement with Sandy and Will - first impressions are lasting impressions and people make their minds up based on those impressions.

Irrespective of your experience, ability, quality of equipment, presentation, etc etc, we could not place a DJ to a function if his or her face was covered in metal or spikey pink hair. Whether morally right or wrong, whatever, simple fact is it wouldn't create the impression we would want to for the Company

ok. thanks all. just to note that the stud on my bottom lip is small and my mohawk is small aswell. more like a old david beckam hair do. and its not pink. in fact i dye it black to match my eyebrows (and the gray. shhhh). but i dont think ill go with it now. i dont get many bookings as it is , thats because i need to advertise myself propelly. anyway, thanks everbody

Depending on where it is, it should go back in with little more than a pop. The nose does start healing pretty quickly when it's out, but I've never had problems with getting it back in.

A flesh tunnel on the other hand is pretty permanent.

I suppose it's because your body will heal internally before the surface does, the outside of the hole is pretty much healed as a hole so you only have to push through a thin layer of healing internaly

I've mentioned this in another forum guys.
Over the years at some point or another I have had 38 piercings. I have 9 in now, some you can't see and some you can but they are discreet (I know now sounds silly but it's very true). I also have a labrett piercing but I take it out when I do private functions (pub gigs and club nights don't matter as I promote them myself and know the audience). I also have 18 tattoos. These are mostly on my arms and can be easily covered up by simply wearing a shirt.

Unfortunately first impressions DO count and I don't like people getting the wrong idea. I've seen piercings become more and more popular over the years and in a way it kind of put me off because I didn't feel that 'alternative' anymore because everyone was getting their noses or tongues pierced etc etc (I had my tongue done when it was still relatively new when I was about 19 I think...that's 20 years ago...blimey!).

Thing is, I am mega mega busy so it's all about how you present yourself. Most of my enquiries etc are done on the phone or email and I am very good at both.(not being big headed) so when it comes to consultations etc then I always go smartly. Unless I strip off (which wouldn't be a good idea), no'one is the wiser and I just look like a guy with a shaven head in a shirt and tie or suit. Years ago I was always different to everyone else. I used to go out clubbing etc with a group of mates who were all into their clubbing but were like sheep...what I mean by that is that they were fashion victims and followed every new trend be it music or clothing. In other words they were like 99.9% of all the others out at the time. When I went out with them it was in the days where you could only get into a nightclub with shoes and a shirt on (haha..those were the days!)...my mates didn't mind doing that as they all dressed like that anyway but it was a big deal to me, I either chucked on some trousers and a shirt or stayed in and back then I wanted to get out as much as I could. I ended up doing better than my mates who were always on the pull because I looked different. It seemed like the ladies liked someone like me back then as I was a bit of a slapper in those days....simply because I had black spikey hair (they called me 'Dennis the menace'), and a few piercings.

Anyway, these days it seems like it's split down the middle. There are so many more people (young people) who are into piercings and tattoos etc and don't really think about them as in how it will affect them in the future. Saying that though, because it is so popular, employers are more laid back about it all too so it's a wierd one. At the end of the day, think about the healing time....once you can take it out then it's better. As for the flesh tunnels, don't bother mate! I have never gone down that avenue because you get scarred for life. A friend of mine had massive flesh tunnels, they were big enough that he could walk around (seriously) with a can of coke in each one!!! His ears are in a right state now!!

Anyway, I've gone on for far too long.

wow. lecture. lol. :p. as i said i think i might give it a miss. at the end you mentioned about scars. you want to see my back. im scared for life anyway. basically hot water when i was 18 months. got scars all over my back and some on my neck and eyebrow. so a tattoo is a good idea as a cover up. anyway. i dont want to get anything else done, maby my tounge but only if my girlfriends lets me. ill try and post a pic of my scars soon. just to give an idea of what i mean.

I've got a few piercings which are fairly discreet, but do have a small stud in my nose which has been there for a while and to be honest I've never had anyone comment on it and I do the more higher end jobs generally.

Years ago, I did used to take any rings/studs out, but unless you have loads stuck in your face, I don't think it's a big problem.

The sad thing is alot of people do juge people by what they look like / wear are all hoodie wearing people going to mug you ? are all muslims going to blow up the tescos store you are shopping in ......... no don't be daft. sadly the media loves to demonize certain sections of society and even more sadly a large proportion of society is thick enough to belive the propoganda vomited out through their televisions and newspapers every day.

people will form an opinion of you by what you look like/wear but id like to say in my ideal little dragonfly world that its what you say to them that will ultimately matter ......

Like he says - when you stretch a piercing that far it doesn't shrink back, you'll have a saggy hole there for the rest of your life.

My ear piercings will take a 1.6mm ring, still looks OK when out --- and you can get jewellery that fakes it too - narrow bars with big ends to them, if picking up chicks with dreadlocks / bookings for illegal raves is what you're aiming for... :D :beer1: :cool:
