my fave was the rambelers country house resturante an a place called corbridge
i was always recomended by the owners to people wanting a disco
and was the most respected by the owners.
it was sold a cupl of years ago and turned into flats
the owner now runs the tyndale funtion suite also a great place to play

Hustyns Spa and health resort, Wadebridge, Cornwall

Dead posh.....even the bushes were manicured. function room is two tiered with balconies and glass screens around the dance floor and stage (so it felt a bit like a fish bowl), but accoustics are right good.....staff are dead dishy and always help me with the gear!

We are very fortunate over here in Suffolk. This year has seen some really great venues, all of which have there own merits:

Thorpeness Country Club - Great views of the sea
Thornham Walled Garden - just like your own little piece of heaven
Priory Hall, Hadleigh - WOW! oh and WOW!
Columbine Hall barn - peaceful, tranquil and bespoke

Looking forward to next year - wedding at Framlingham Castle!

It's impossible to name my favourite venue, as I like many for different reasons.

Some are my favourites because they are only a few minutes up the road, I love others because they have really easy access, others because they are really classy, and some because the staff really look after you & help with the gear.

True....the way you are looked after varies immensley.....I did one recently where they fed, watered and offered me a room for the night! (all free of charge)

Best in the the past was on the flight deck of the ark royal. We setup on one of the aircraft lifts and they raised it up like a stage. Absolutley fantastic. Great atmosphere as well. The view from the deck is amazing feels like your on a mountain looking down. It was in port in Portsmouth at the time and you could see anywhere in the city from its deck.
Mind you getting the gear up a gangway was no picnic, but had loads of help.

Mine are mainly all local small venues (community halls, etc) here in Staffordshire and some South Cheshire but I do have some favourites among them - usually the ones that make me feel welcome, are willing to open up early so I can be set up on time and also don't mind the extra time it takes for me to load up again at the end seeing I'm usually just 'one man and his trolley'!

Out socially at a friend's 50th last night (sat) it was fun, even if the DJ was....... actually no I won't.

my fave venue has to be the prison social club - lol, seriously, it is a great venue.

bar manageress is superb (as soon as I get there she makes me a coffee)

off topic - no smoking allowed anywhere outside the club, if you want to smoke you have to go completely off the prison grounds.

bet the prisoners love that....I've worked a prison recently and 99% of them were smokers

MY favourite venues are the places I play regularly where I know the staff and get drinks bought over to me during the evening, and also the ones where access is good and they are well set out for DJs. Eg: enough room to set up, near electrical points, near-ish the bar and toilets, good access and lights with dimmers.

Has to be The Park Hotel, Diss, Norfolk.

Access great. Park right beside door which is just to one side of the stage.

Nice size dance floor with seating area raised up at rear of function room so no tables, chairs etc can wander onto the floor. Glass sided bar to one side for people who don't like loud music but can still hear at a lower volume.

And the acoustics are superb Sound carries evenly throughout the main area and filters into bar. no echo or absorbing of sound at all.

Oh, and the rooms and catering aren't bad, either.

To be honest, it'd have to be one or the other (echo/absorption), or more likely both, unless the space is so huge that the sound dies before it reaches the nearest wall.

I've had functions where the DJ's ( working) and staff outnumbered the punters!

Always like Bedford Lodge in Newmarket the management were stars for about 8 years and they had a cupboard to keep basic stuff in for nights there that I held a key too. Then it got taken over buy a bunch of cost cutting clutzes of a hotel group. whom thought I should have to pay storage for disco equipment DUH that they were going to hire????.... they soon were sent to coventry as to be polite... And yes I use to run 6 disco's for the owner of the equipment.. No one else got a look in they learnt very quickly there mistake... As no one was willing to tread on my toes

I did a function at Wentworth Golf Club this past Saturday night and I have to say it ticks all the right boxes - access is right back onto the stage, the people are nice, the venue is stunning - it's just a shame it's so far from me and probably I won't get another gig there for a long time.

I did a wedding there a few years back, and I agree with your comments, easy access & a fantastic venue.

Hopefully I'll get another one there one day!

Of all the places I've worked, I think my top venue would be The Savoy.

This is partly because it's one of the most exclusive hotels in the country, and partly because we were given a meal - which we weren't expecting - and the quality was out of this world.

i have done linden hall a few times near morpth great venue done the morpeth hunt ball there a few times
and langley and lumbley castle in the north east
and deleval hall that was a great place to play

Lane End Pavilion is nice from an access point of view.

Wembley Plaza is one of my favourites. All on one level & reserved parking.

I also like marquees that you can drive right up to.

Tewinbury Farm is nice too.
