View Full Version : Finally solved my speaker problem!

With my Warrior L300 speakers being quite a few years old, and then one of them starting to vibrate, and then the Peaveys I got to replace them being too large, heavy & awkward to carry in one go, I've finally solved my speaker problem.
I've gone back to my original plan & joined the Mackie club! :D :D :D
Today I took delivery of a brand new pair of C300z speakers, and I'm looking forward to christening them properly on Saturday night.
I've always been a man who loves a bargain, and I think I did pretty well - as I picked them up for £284 including next day delivery!
One thing occurred to me, though - the cheapest I've seen the Warriors for is £329...which is £45 MORE than I paid for the Mackies...
...so does this mean I STILL have budget speakers?

No, you have speakers that you bought at a budget price, but are not budget. ;)
BTW Rob, get the proper Mackie bags for them to keep them in immaculate condition. There seems to be a shortage in this country, but Thomann in Germay have stock.

i have just had a look at the specs, are they going to be loud enough??? only 300 watts rms each or are you going to be using bass bins aswell???

Loud enough for what? If you don't know what kind of gig Rob does and where he does them and for how many people, then what difference does how many watts mean? :confused:
Watts don't mean a lot anyway. Speaker efficiency means more.

if im right i think rob does a lot of quiz nights then yeah there more than loud enough.
i was also taking into account for disco's. 600 watts for a large hall wont really cut it i dont think.

That depends on the efficiency of the speakers, size of the dance floor and number of dancers, along with the positioning of the speakers. You can't just make a statement based on the wattage of the speakers - it's not a true measure.

When I was your age, we had 70w rms total, and we worked anywhere, including some big halls!

i understand that. i was just saying it as overall. if it was a large hall and it was only 1/4 full then im sure 600 watts is plenty, maby add a sub to increase the bass responce

Just got back from my pub quiz night.
I christened one of the Mackies (I only use 1 speaker for the pub quizzes).
Obviously I won't be able to form a proper opinion until I've used them on Saturday...
...but based on tonight's use, they are a lot louder than the Warrior L300s (same RMS rating though) and I also preferred the sound of them.
There again, the Warriors were at least 5 years old & have been used nearly every night...so were long overdue for replacement.
Roll on Saturday!
